it says that AVP should run on any new computer, I've got an ibook 500 that runs quake 3 at 50 fps and UT at 40-60, but for some reason, the AVP demo is really slow outside. The subway area itself is OK, but outdoors is like 15 fps. I'm running at 640 x 480 32bit and have 192 megs of ram. What's wrong, why is it doing this, and how do I fix it?

Which os are you running it in? I tried it in osx10.1 classic and it was hopelessly slow.

When i rebooted in os 9.2.1 it ran quite nicely.

Make sure you have the latest video drivers (go to the ati site and download the mac radeon drivers - they work for the ati rage 128).

Another thing that will help speed it up is going into the video settings and turning down the detail level from high to medium,

there isnt a great visual difference but it seems to speed it up a fair bit.

Gees your getting 50fps on quake 3 - maybe you could give me a few pointers (I get around 30).

I'm still just pissed off that the bloody game ran fine (albeit a bit slowly) in 10.0.4, but WON'T LOAD ANY LEVELS WITHOUT CRASHING UNDER 10.1!!!

Eerrrrrghhh...

Well, i presonally don't think this game holds a candle to UT or even SiN. Sorry, but for me this is a slap in the face with a really old PC game (which has the sequel coming soon for the PC) that got ported to the Mac. I want the new games. The games that make me say, "WOW this is much better than what i was just playing". I tried the demo in one player and was a little disappoointed, but enjoyed it for a bit. Then i tried multiplayer, and was completely disappointed. Whether it's gameranger or whatever, this game sucks online. I get 40fps online with UT on the highest settings in 640x480 (which i don't mind). AvsP makes me feel like i just turned on my SE30 and tried to run Doom, which is virtually IMPOSSIBLE!!! Oh well, i'll sit and wait for the Elite Force Expansion Pack, Unreal 2, Doom 3 and Halo. I know it'll be a long wait, but it's the only alternative!

Thanks alot .

It hangs every time with a tiny bit left on the extension loading bar.

I'm gonna get these drivers to work, I'm gonna use conflict catcher.

ok, I got it started up, but It puts a red X over the "Ati graphics accellerater" extension (the one with the moving monitor).

I can't figure out how to enable this, because w/o it, I can't do hardware rendering.

Right, chimpmaster, could you please e-mail me the extension "ATI Graphics Accelerator" via attachment? appearantly, the one that comes with the installer doesn't work with it, and get X'd. Big topic about it at the xlr8your mac forums (which dont' let new registrations).
