HELP I'm trapped in old Mac world! I have an iMacDV with 64mgs of RAM. It's 300mhz and although it's a year old it still kicks! My problem comes when I try to run games like Descent 3 (minimum 64mgs of RAM) they just don't run fast enough! When I play Oni (96mgs minimum) with vm kicked to 300 it works fine but when I kick the vm up when I play Descent 3 it shows little to no improvement. What can I do to make D3 run faster?

Get more real RAM. I personally have 384 MB, and I really wouldn't recommend anyone even try to run any semi-recent 3D-accelerated game with less than 128 MB RAM. It's really cheap and it will be a huge help with not only games but with other applications as well. 256 MB is a great target number.

I don't know where you get your RAM but around Maryland you pay about $200 to upgrade from 64 to 256mgs of RAM. My budget is $70 (I just got myself a $300 program so spare me with the "you've got to be kidding, only $70" stuff!)

Check out the right sidebar where you can find a 256 MB RAM chip for the iMac DV for $74.

It's been a while since I played D3, but I remember it having a lag problem and someone told me to lower the sound settings, and that helped alot it I remember correctly.

There is a good site for Mac D3 and you prob can email the webmaster if you have questions, he's cool. http://Mac.Descent3.net/

Also,
Submit reviews for the Mac games you play at my site: http://www.macgamersreview.com/

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks again! The sound thing helps! The best part is that I can hardly hear the difference in the music!
