I just bought a voodoo 5500 and installed it and it won't work does anyone have the same card and can get it to work?

Did you connect the card to your power supply? It needs more power than can be supplied from the PCI bus alone.

Is it true that the Voodoo card will not play DVD's? Not the end of the world if it doesn't but would say I find it a bit strange that a card of it's specs left that out.

Yes, the Voodoo cards, even the 4 4500 and 5 5500, are not compatible with DVD Player. Only ATI cards and now the Nvidia Geforce 2 MX card are compatible with DVD Player.
