Hello--
I just bought the Sims from the Apple Store, installed both the OS 9 and Carbon versions, and am able to LAUNCH the program under OS X.
However, once the opening movie plays (the one with the house being built, etc.) the game crashes and the Finder says "The application has unexpectedly quit." What's up with this?!
Thanks in advance... Brian
(FYI, I have a G4 Cube 500 with a Radeon card and 256 Meg RAM, running OS 10.1.2)

I'm having a similar problem with Sims Vacation, but I've had the program working before. I thought it was one of the many custom some skins/objects I've added, but if you're having the same problem right out of the box now I'm not so sure.

Any reason why you're not using 10.1.5? I'd recommend that for any Puma (10.1) users.

Or why you are not using Mac OS X 10.2?
Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.1.5 for the very least and then go to Aspyr.com and make sure you have the latest version of The Sims carbon.

I have to echo the first problem -- I installed Unleashed a month ago for my daughter. Now, after updating to 10.2.4 (and that's all I can think of that I've done, except for allowing fire-sharing), the program crashes unexpectedly at just the same point. Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks.

My sister an I have purchased the whole series upto Unleashed. She was able to get it to install and run no problem (once she freed up enough disk space) on her bondi blue iMac running 9.2.2. I on the other hand, hadn't reinstalled it since I got my new hard drive. One of the expansions failed during installation in 10.2.4, but was able to get it to reinstall. Once everything was added, I tried to launch it in X, but it unexpectedly quit. I then proceeded to try in in 9.2.2, it crashed, hard. I decided to trash it all, and install again, this time all in 9, and success! It runs nice in X. I haven't tried it in 9, but I really have no reason to. Maybe it was a just a fluke in the first installation, but it worked for me.

Hi -- Just so I know I have this right, you installed it all in 9, but you run it in X? Did you have to install the patch or anything? I'm sort of confused...

I didn't have to patch anything with unleashed. I do remember a time when a patch was needed in order to run it natively in X, but with the subsequent expansions, it was included (carbonized). And to clarify, yes, I installed everything in 9, straight from the discs in order: sims > livin' large > house party > hot date > vacation > unleashed. I know it is cumbersome, but when I crashed hard when I tried to run it, I figured it was easier to nuke it and reinstall everything instead of trying to hunt down the problem among 2 GB+ of files. Saved houses/buildings are stored in the UserData# folders, so I suggest backing those up before you attempt anything so you can bring them back later. Keep in mind, this is just my experience, your result may vary...
