Hi! I have the following system Config.
Quicksilver 733 with 1Gig RAM
GEFORCE 3 (ASUS V8200 DELUXE FLASHED TO A MAC)
2 x 40 GB 7200 RPM HDD
1 x 75 GB 7200 RPM HDD
OSX 10.1.1
I have read everywhere that at 640x480 i can easily get a FPS of 80-90. and 50-60 at 1024. But somwhow the FPS at my machine never goes above 47 at whatever resolutions I try. I tried setting everything to lowest at 640x480 and still I get only 43 FPS. I am trying DEMO0001. Is there anything going wrong. Please help.. I do not want a good investment in the machine and Geforce 3 going wrong.

Something's wrong. Try a default installation of Quake. Make sure nothing else is using the graphics resources.
The GeForce3 can go up to 600 frames per second on a PC if configured properly. However, you'll have to sacrifice serious visual quality for such a framerate.

Actually I have tried a fresh install of OSX with no other app running and got the same results. Also I am using a PC Quake 3 installation as I do not have a mac cd available in the market here. I just copied the Quake 1.30 update and ran it. Even in OS 9 I cannot get higher than 54 FPS in the lowest settings. There are a few hardware devices added to the system if that might be interfering. They are
1. USB Palm Cradle
2. HP 2200D Laserjet USB
3. ADS Pyro Firewire Case with Pioneer Superdrive
4. PCI Firewire Card
5. Adapterc 2906 SCSI Card attached to a UMAX 2400S Scanner (Switched off mainly)
6. 256MB 2 x SDRAM, 512 x 1 SDRAM Sticks.
7. One 40GB connected to the Zip bay
Also I tried deleting the cfg file for a fresh start but that didn;t help. All other benchmarks of the system wortk perfectly. Like Altivec Fractal Demo gives me 2700 in OSX and 2900 in OS9 which is fine. I dunno why Quake is acting up.
Thanks

This may not be it but try this.
type /com_maxfps 150
see if that does anything.

Nope. Still maxs out at 45.8 FPS at 1024 and 42.8 at 1600
I am missing something?
