Sorry, I don't have a link that you can click on to get it.

I'm wondering about how difficult it be to port this game without whoever's blessing. How difficult would it be to port only an OS X version? Is it possible? Is it just an integer fix? Or does it require DirectX crapola?

You can go into any CompUSA and pick up Half Life for about twenty bucks or so. If someone did an unblessed port that required the PC data (images, midi, wav files, cinematics, level data) and such, the developers would still get paid.

Bring it on!

Maybe if the developers release the original source code...which I have to say, unfortunately, I don't think is likely to happen. A Mac port requires a lot of time and effort, and isn't just a matter of a simple recompile...estimates are that an average port requires an investment of about a hundred thousand dollars and a lot of man hours. So that's that...and while it IS the Quake 2 engine, which has been ported to the Mac OS, the Half-Life version of the engine is so tweaked that it's virtually of no help at all to have Quake 2 ported...

In short, although it's great wishful thinking, I think that's all it is ever going to be. Unless something totally unexpected happens...

AFAIK, there was a post-beta quality port of Half-Life for the Mac. It
was all set to go when the publisher killed it off. It would be nice if
they released it as an open source project or something.

HL came out in '98, almost four years ago. I played it on my PC up until last year, downloading player made levels and such. It is an awesome game. Too bad there just aren't enough of us Mac gamers out there...

As much as I hate to say this, I think that there will be no Half-Life for the Mac at all. However, the good news is that mods for other games can be made to appear like that of Half-Life.
