In their review of Oni, they say "To keep things interesting, you'll learn new melee moves and be able to use new weapons as the game progresses. To keep the game's replay value after you've completed it, you can play it again as any one of the game's enemies, bosses, or allies."
Is this really true? I have played and finished the PS2 version, and no such option presents itself. In actuality, this seems kinda crazy and would have been a lot of work for developers. So were they just smokin' some crack or should I be looking harder at my PS2? Or maybe this is just a Mac/PC feature set? Plus, how many levels are there actually in Oni? The PS2 has 14, but I've heard differently from others.

Yes, there are 14 levels in the Mac version. And what happened to me was that I finished off Muro, went through the cinematic, then at the end of all the credits it says:
Cheat Codes Enabled
#8 -- Shapeshifter -- Play as Any of the Characters -- F8 toggles
And then it quit. Now, what it means is not that you play from a different perspective, as in if you were Muro then you get to play from the perspective of stopping Konoko, but rather it applies a "skin" of sorts. So you play the same thing only with a different body. Doesn't really add much to the replay value, but it's interesting.
And yes, it worked for me. There are way more people than I thought...

Well, that sucks. It's not enabled in the PS2 version, where there are 14 levels, but 17 advertised on the box. I note that if you make certain choices you can wind up with different situtations - i.e. to kill or not to kill Griffin - is that where the extra levels are, or what exactly happened to them? A little annoyed if they just cut them for time's sake. . . well, anybody who has finished Oni, let me know what your experiences are. BTW, that sounds pretty corny to me (to advertise that as "play the game as any of the other characters" - not untruthful, though misleading).
Thanks for the info.

It actually is pretty interesting to play as other characters because many of them have their own special moves. Also, you can switch between them as you play with the press of a button, so you don't have to play the entire game as Muro, for instance.

Yes -- I have to see what happens when I let Griffin live (yeah, I killed him -- what can I say, I'm a hardass ).
Hopefully I'll get something new. When I killed him Konoko spazzed and gave a long angry speech.

Spoliers included - do not read further if you don't want this info:
Well, if you kill Griffin, you wind up with Muro the monster in level 14.
If you let him go, you get regular Muro with some baddies, and Griffin and his flunkies come help you out. I think the ending is the same either way, if you win, but am not sure.
Let me know,
M.
