I'm trying to get the best looking visuals I can on my G4 450 Cube with Nvidia GFMX2 640MB Ram.
I'm also looking for super smooth speed as I'm spoilt on my MAD 1600XP DDR266Mhz Geforce 3 Gaming rig :o
Anyone got any good ini tips?
But I still play DeusEx on my Mac

Your ram is good, but I'm afraid that DX will still crap out on you. The 450 mhz G4 won't help you very much, as it was unplayable on my G3 500mhz (training was ~20 fps (!) and the first level was even worse (<5!)

The Geforce2MX is crap, it's actually much slower than the origional Geforce 256, so that will really hold your computer back. Run in 640 x 480, that's all I can say, because I think you won't have smooth framerates even if you lower everything the way (I couldn't).

I have a dual 800 with GeForce 3, and the first level of the demo, with graphics and everything turned down, still ran really choppy (partly because that level hardly has any fog to reduce the poly count). I was shocked! The training ran great (at 800x600x32), but the first level was bloody horrible! I think (because I read somewhere) it's because DeusX runs in RAVE mode or something, which is crap, I know -- not nearly as fast as OpenGL.

Anyway, on a happier note, Quake 3 for me at 1600x1200 runs between 50 (with 3-5 characters on-screen in battle) and 80 FPS. Man, is Quake 3 beautiful at 1600x1200.

Thanx for the replys, I get (I'm guessing) 50 ish FPS in 1024X768 but I like to play atleats @ 1158X876 if not 1280X1024 (I'm spoiled bcause of my PC ) I just hate Jaggies now.
I was wondering about the visual quality because there seems to be 16bit textures; I read the game only plays/uses these (god knows why) somewhere.
I've editied my ini file A LOT but with 32 Bit textures and colour depth etc I still get the look of 16 bit textures where as if I run in OpenGL I do get 32Bit textures and the game looks much better, but unfortunately suffers a performance hit (god I wish I had my nosiy Radeon in my Cube still or do I, I'm still undecided ).
OP.S I've bought loads of games for my PC, and they've either come out or coming out on the Mac!!!
:o

Buy a Voodoo 5500 PCI and drop it in they are cheap and for UT and Deus Ex there is no better card on the market PC or Mac. As Voodoo don't exist you will properly be able to get one for under £50.

Cheers Edd

[EDIT] Sorry just noticed you said cube.. Doh.. [/EDIT]

The trouble is with nVidia drivers...

I have a DP450 with an ATI Radeon that runs Deus Ex at 1024x768/32bit at always-over-30FPS (don't know the exact rate, just know that it is fluid).

In fact, even my old iMac 350 with an 8 MB ATI Rage 128 VR ran it just fine at 640x480!

Well, there's your problem right there, try 640x480 or 800x600.
DeusEx will suck up all the horsepower you throw at it, try taking down the details levels in the visual preferences, etc.

The G4 Cube didn't have PCI slots, remember?

The new RADEON 7000 upgrade card handles Deus Ex better. Almost anything's better than a 3dfx Voodoo4 now.

By the way, 3dfx is the name of the company.
