I tried three times to install Diablo II on my Titanium Powerbook last night. Each time it installed successfully, but every time I ran Diablo II, my system froze! What the heck? Diablo II ran like a dream on my cube and it had a slower processor. The PBG4 has the same video card. Why is this happening?

sorry dude... there is only one option that you MUST DO... give it to me =)

lol

you might want to check to see if you have enough ram, sometimes when i try to run an open gl based game i have enough ram for the game, but not for opengl, and then my system locks up. You also might want to check your games sprocekets, and rebuild your desktop.

if you decide that you want to get rid of that thing let me know =)

There's someone in my head but its not me...

Your PBG4 hates Diablo II? Its got good taste

Not exactly the same vid card... its trimmed down.
Try starting up with MacOS All extension set then install it, and install the latest GameSprockets.
BTW, turn off USB Overdrive.
Install the latest version of OpenGL.
Delete the Diablo II preferences file.
Install an older version of the Apple CD/DVD Driver if you have installed iTunes.
Check RAM allocation of Diablo II app. How much RAM do you have?

Yeah, I was gonna say to allocate more RAM to the game as a start. Then, check Blizzard's site for any known incompatibilities. I know that Diablo II works like a dream on my Pismo PB 400mhz, so it stands to reason that it SHOULD work fine on your PB.

...and maybe make a custom extension set for just those extensions you need for graphics, sound, etc. Custom extension sets work great for limiting conflicts! You can name it "Diablo II Extension Set" or something and boot to that set when you're playing DII.

Have you upgraded it to version 1.05B? If you haven't, it might fix the problem.

Make sure you've got enough RAM (you can never have enough, but you know what I mean). Allocate a buttload of RAM to Diablo II and if it still doesn't work, then try this:

Send the Powerbook to me and I'll troubleshoot the problem for you. These Titaniums are known for quirky problems with games, I've personally fixed four in the last week. It's impossible to explain in words, so you have to send the Titanium to me. I'll have it back in no time..

Keith,

Please let us know here if you get this problem fixed, I've been polishing up my Ti400 for DII but now I'm not sure if I should buy it. TIA

I got my TiPB yesterday, flailed with D2 for a while, freezes, etc. Finally got it working by copying over D2 1.05b plus miscellaneous other files from the latest updated working version on my B&W G3. Works fully now. I don't think the 1.0 version off the install disk can deal with the TiPB

Man, it seems as though Keith has solved the problem but hasn't posted about it

That really pisses me off...

Yeah, me too
How hard is it to reply with a 'thanks' or whatever. It wasn't too hard to ask for something
It just makes it more worthwhile helping people if they say thanks after it all.
Oh well.
Seperates people doesn't it?

Is it just me or wasnt D2 one of those games that had dynamic RAM alloc? If thats the case, increasing the programs RAM alloc in the "get info window" would actually lower the RAM available to the program, right?

:/

Sorry about not replying sooner fellas. I DO appreciate your feedback and help, I've just been on a camping expedition in the Teton Mountains for a while, so I've not dealt much with my Diablo II problem. That said, I still have not resolved the problem. I've got 256MB of RAM and a 500MHz processor on my Ti, so I'm sure it is not that this Powerbook is lacking in the hardware category (it runs Rune beautifully). I'm not comfortable messing with the extensions just for this measly game. I think I'll wait for Alice. If I have problems then, I'll get down to the nitty-gritty for the sake of playing a game. Thanks again for your posts.

Hello,

I own a Ti Powerbook 400MHz with 256MB RAM and had the problem of Diablo II freezing at startup. That's before I came across this messageboard and found that the solution to that is to install Patch 1.05b.
Now it works great! My Lvl3 Paladin has a lot of catching up to do - and I am getting back to it right now

Cheers.

I'm afraid my computer is just broken somehow. Everything graphics related just seem to run SLOWER with the exception of Photoshop.

I had to revert to my 16MB ATI card because things were so disgustingly slow with the nVidia card. I just hoe to God it's not my computer. This pisses me off. I never had these problems on my single G4 500 when it came to video. Especially Diablo II. For whatever reason it's slow as ****. I can't stand it.
