Anyone try this yet? As of Tuesday noon EST I haven't been able to get in. Although the "News" section of their site says something about server maintenance, PC players are currently able to get on.
Anyone have any luck?

me and a friend both downloaded it and played it last night.
I used to play Ultima Online alot when I had a PC, and Lineage doesnt have anything on UO (except maybe the amount of players per server is much higher)
I removed it from my G4 last night as did my friend.
Guess we will have to wait for World of Warcraft to play a decent MMRPG

So I downloaded this POS for nothing? I haven't tried it yet 'cuz their server can't make a secure connection so I can create an account.
If it's anything like Clan Lord but with better graphics, I might like it. But apparently this isn't worth my time, right?

Lineage has one attribute that makes me want to pull my hair out...
IT RUNS AT A CAPPED 10 FPS, if not LESS. This is not dependent on hardware. Plus, the characters are poorly animated, every character of a class looks the same as every other char of that class...
I've read that the low framerate is because it allows Lineage to display massive battles without dropping frames, but I'd gladly accept some frame dropping if the game could AT LEAST achieve fluid motion at 24 FPS.
The incredibly poor quality of Lineage's graphics make it, for me, unplayable.

Woo! 10fps!
You think that's low, ya young whippersnapper? Do ya?
Well, then, lemme tell ya about a little thing called Clan Lord. How does 4fps grab ya? Now THAT'S a low cap! And from 6pm-9pm pst, it's even slower! 3fps! Even better, you can't even tell what a character's class is by their icons! Sure, a Thoom is 80% of the time gonna be a healer, and Sylvan women are 90% of the time gonna be totally nutso but there's still no way ta tell just by looking at 'em (apologies to all the non-nutso sylvan women on CL).
With 10fps and 4 character classes (a 33% increase over Clan Lord), I can't wait to try Lineage! 'Course, me not having net access at home right now (long, involved and distorted story), I won't have a chance to give it a shot. Alas....

LOL
If a game runs at 4 FPS and has indistinguishable characters, why would anyone play it!? Must have some extreme saving grace...

Well, you can tell what race they are (unless they're wearing a cloak) and what gender. Telling class just by icon, however, is a whole other story. That's why there's a separate window showing who's currently online and what class they are (Fighter {they fight}, Healer {they heal}, or Mystic {they suck}).
As for the appeal of the game, check out comp.sys.mac.games.adventure to see the many and varied discussions. They're easy to spot -- all of the threads have CL in the topics, so those who aren't interested can filter them out. Me, I've been playing for almost 2 years now and have made quite a few good friends on Clan Lord. My guess is there'll be a lot of cross-pollination coming from CL over to Lineage.

Well, I've gotten on and have played Lineage the past few days. My observations:
- The game is very worth it. True about the low fps, and the screen rez is fixed at 640x480, but it's not terribly annoying for me. YMMV. Nice thing: it runs perfectly well on my Wallstreet, meaning I can play sitting on the couch via Airport. And at work when I shouldn't. Nice to have a modern game that I can run on my older hardware.
- The world is *huge*. One of the most varied games I've played on the Mac.
- The majority of players are cool. This is compared to my experience playing Ultima Online, where it sometimes seemed like *everyone* was ready to take advantage of a newbie, or to engage in PKing, or to start insulting and feuding contantly. There's some of that, but theres a really high percentage of people willing to take the time to help you learn the ropes and get started. Also, there's an irc channel I've found, and the people there (all PC players) were actualy really interested and *excited* to have a Mac player in there. Some good-natured ribbing, but none of the "Mac sux, their for lamerz!" BS we Mac users are so accustomed to. A really nice change.
- The non-changing player graphics are strange, especially coming from UO, but you get used to it. This is a big complaint from all players, and there are hints from NCSoft that they're working on it.
- I do wish that the resolution was changeable, or if it's to be fixed at 640x480, I wish it could be windowed instead of full-screen. The graphics fuzz out on an LCD (look great on my G4's CRT though).
- The interface has some rough edges (for both Mac & PC). I've sent feedback to NCSoft about this. They are apparently a pretty responsive company.
- Price is right: Mac beta is free until March 4, then you get a free monthy, then $15/month for unlimited play, or $11/month if you buy 3 months or pay via PayPal.
Overall, I'd say check this game out. I'm pretty bored with ultra high-end games that have little replay value (Giants, for example). This game is a perfect time-waster for me until the next EV comes out, and maybe even in place of it. Playing with thousands of other people is just incredibly fun.

You need to go to their website first and create an account. It's free - they don't ask for a credit card - just a confirmation email. Once created, you can enter that into the client app.

LOL. My sig is an image with randomly generated text from a database. One of the random choices is the requester's IP address. I think another is the browser name & version. And the rest are quotes I've stuck in the database.
You're the first person to notice that.[/LIST]

My two cents...
Most of the poo-poo posts above were from people who haven't played the game.
TRUTH: The graphics aren't great
OPINION: There's a heck of a lot more to a game, especially an online one then the way it looks.
I love this game. I can't stop playing it. It took me a few days to get the feel for it, but this is a *very* addictive experience once you get into it.
Tons of other players, huge world to explore, lots of little goodies. Many nice details that have nothing to do with graphics have been stuffed into this game.
SUGGESTION: DL it from iDisk instead of the Lineage server -> Much Faster (for me)

Download is too big, but I love games like this. Possible I'll buy this game though. Clan Lord is great, but your character starts out too weak(or I should have started when everybody else did a year or more before.) UO had it's problems with a'holes but thats always the case with online(i.e. anonymous) crap. CL did good to implement a Karma engine. Does lineage have such?

Lineage punishes player killers with its alignment system. If you kill others, your name appears red to everyone else and you have a chaotic alignment. This is an open invitation to other players to beat the crap out of you and kill you repeatedly because killing a chaoitic player does not result in a change to the other player's alignment.
Also, a chaoitic character has a greater chance of dropping something when he/she dies. A lawful player (one who has a high alignment score, generally not a player killer) is protected from losing any stuff when killed.
In short, its OK for everyone else to kill player killers, so they do.
There are some small exceptions, but overall the @$$hole to human ratio is pretty favorable for the humans right now. Of course, this could change in time. There's also a non-player-killer server for you folks who don't like to take risks.
I like this game a lot so far, but haven't decided if I'm willing to pay beyond the beta. Try it if you have a fast connection for the download. I've had a lot of fun with the game at no charge.
