Have a couple of questions about Quake 3. First, I have downloaded 3 versions of it: quake 3 demo, quake 3 1.27g, and quake 3 team arena. First, when I use the quake 3 1.27g version, I get an error about missing default.cfg. Assuming someone tells me how to overcome that problem, how do I use this updated version? Also, is there any way that I am supposed to the updated version with Team Arena? Assuming I get the 1.27 version working, do I trash the whole quake 3 demo version (1.11 I think - off of id website), or just a section? thanks

I get the same error with TA -- something about "default.cfg."

Perhaps someone could email me a copy of this file?

Trash it all and reinstall.
Then have a ball while you frag them all.

According to their website, the proper thing to do for ALL Quake 3 users is to update to 1.27g, because this then makes sure that you have the same code as "Team Arena," which is supposed to come out soon.

So I did that -- and now it won't run at all. I'm getting the "default.cfg" error that others are reporting.

I've sent them feedback advising them of the problem, but have not heard back.

Help!!! I need my Quake!!!

I don't mean to advert another website (and I have no affiliation!) but quake3world has an excellent forum for macs. People there are a little fanatical, but the search engine should help.

Jzaw, I responded to your message in your thread.

1.17 is the fastest version. 1.27g is a slow beta. The next "real" version for macs will hopefully be the altivec-optimized version. Whooo-hooo!

i had that error witht he defualt.cfg error..its not someting u can't get. .quake generates it..anyways..when u installed team arena this happened to me to..i made the folder called Mission Pack right..but then after i got the rror i went back to the normal quake 3 screen then when i quit i found out that there was a folder created called "missionpack" exactly that name, if u have that folder created u should move the pk files with TA to it. Then when u start up j0r quake 3 1.27 there should be a menu saying Team Arena, then BAM you're done...hope this helps, i bet u tried to play ta by selecting the missionpack in the mod's option huh? i dont know..that just happened to me..hope it did for u so now u know a fox =]

For those that are missing the "default.cfg" file..go into your 'baseq3' folder and make sure that you have PAK0.PAK through Pak4.pak (Team Arena users also need pak5 I believe...which comes with the beta patch). They can be found on your instalation CD...once you copy these over, Quake 3 should run just fine.

Elvin hit the nail on the head. Once you do the updating, you have to go and get the "pak0.pk3" from either the original CD or the trash. For some reason -- and apparently not in all cases -- the installer throws away this necessary file.

Dragging it back from the trash and into the game folder solved the problem for me.

Here is a direct link to a discussion of this very issue on the Quake 3 site, with some other suggestions and ideas that may also help.

Good luck, and thanks to those who replied here!
