Hello,

I have read about a way to get quake 3 to display how many frames per second it achieves by using a timedemo or something similiar.

Could someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this as i would like to see how well (or not) mt mac is coping.

Thanks in advance,

Matthew

The command to get FPS readings on the fly (and during normal game play is: /cg_drawFPS 1

If you want time demos, you should use the /timedemo 1 command, and then run one of the demo's in the Demo's section. After the demo is done, hit the tilde key (~) to see the results.

Hope this helps.

That's exactly the way to do it. However, keep in mind that the console can be used for anything. You can bind keys, change viewpoints, execute commands, etc. If you want to know more, I can give you a list of the commands you can do.

Thanks.

I tried to do as you suggested, but every time I i tried to run a demo (either demo001 or demo002 - they're the only ones that appeared) the mac just beeps and returns me to the main menu screen

Any further ideas,

Cheers,

Matthew

Didn't play q3 for a long while but the last time I did, the new update didn't allow playing demos. Maybe there is yet another update.
If not, go to the quake3world.com macdiscussion forums there should be someone to help you.

Eh? demo1 and demo2!!?? HOW DARE YOU! GO UPGRADE NOW!!!

You'll have to make your own demo for 1.31 to to a timedemo 1 test. I don't have a server I can upload it to though, but if someone could give me one, it's a very nice camping grounds demo. I think I get something like 26 consecutive kills . It's more intensive than the origional DEMO4, and will give you about 10 FPS slower averages. (I got 95fps on that one at 640 x 480 x 32, high textures/geo detail, and 86fps on my demo, same settings).
