I've read that people are having kernel panics playing Myth III, before I buy it I want to know opinions of people here who've played it. It is as bad as they make it out to be? Some say that there will be no fixes because the designers at Mumbo Jumbo have split up. I've played the demo and it looked phenomenal, no panics, but it crashed twice and I gave up.

I have it and have yet to encounter a single problem...but I have been too busy of late to play it much, between that the fire, classes, Civ 3, etc. I have hardly ever play it.

Oh, I love this game!
I've played this game both in X and in 9. It seems to be more stable in 9. I've had a few "This Application Has Unexpectedly Quit" crashes in X, but no Kernel panics as of yet. (G4 Cube 450, 384 MB RAM, GeForce2) It's AltiVec enabled, and the graphics are gorgeous on the GeForce2.
The Gameplay is good, although there's much less of a feeling of urgency and dark foreboding as you play the game than there was in the previous episodes. More of the story takes place outside the game in the cutscenes than did in the previous episodes. The voice talent that's used in the cutscenes in the shipping game is an order of magnitude better than the amateur that they used in the demo. (Although, why does everybody seem to have a Scottish accent?) The multiplayer is as fun as it ever was.
One disappointment that I had was that you don't get to use any dwarves in about the first third of the game. (This is made up for by a great level that only gives you dwarves to fend off wave after wave of Ghols. Oh, and the new Dwarven Axe-Warriors are tough little buggers!)
All in all, I'm very pleased. Obviously, I'd like an update to fix the unexpected quits (maybe 4 times) that I've experienced, but I'd definitely say this is a worthwile game.

The only time I EVER get a kernel panic is when I am in a multiplayer game online (gamespy). It happens at random times also...

I've never played mulitplayer using GameSpy. I'll have to try it out.

I experienced my first kernel panic this evening while playing on a single player level under 10.1.3. All the gobledygook on the screen seemed to point to the fault being something to do with the Nvidia drivers for my Cube.
I checked out the official support page, and they do admit that there is a problem with the Nvidia drivers. Of course, they blame this on Apple and Nvidia, not themselves...
Is anybody with an ATI card experiencing any of the "Unexpected Quits" or the kernel panics?

Question 1
does myth 3 still require a serielnumber? I hated that about part 1 and 2, I wanted to play vs. my friends over bungie.net but their installs were only 'network'.
Question 2
Will there be a WW2 plugin for M3?

I took a picture of the screen after experiencing the kernel panic and sent it off to the developer in an email. Here's his response:
"Thanks for taking the time to send the PIC. We are aware of the problem and, are trying to verify that it is a video driver issue. (On the surface, it seems to be but, there are a couple of indications that it may actually be something else.) We're working on the problem and will hopefully have a solution very soon. Note that we have not seen any similar problems under OS9. I know that it is a bit inconvenient to reboot to 9 but, it will allow you to play more of the game while we work to resolve the issue."
So, we have verification that they are working on a fix!

1: don't remember one...don't see anything on the case. My conclusion. no. BTW it's not that big a deal.
2: no clue. Guess someone has to decide to make one...

The best way to decide if you want Myth 3 is to play the demo.
Myth 2 is about the only game I've played for the last 4 years. People kept on making cool scenarios and plugins to keep the game entertaining.
In my opinion Myth 3 showed a lot of promise. But Mumbo Jumbo management and Take Two screwed it up. The MJ developers are talented people and they got a lot done in less than a year.
The solo play seems okay. However the multiplay is a step back and very unpolished. The level editor tools are incomplete. The creator of the WW2 mod was employed(and laid off) by Mumbo Jumbo. When someone asked him if he would make a WW2 mod for M3. His response was something like, Don't ask.... it's just not possible anymore.
I would buy Myth 3, but I won't until they fix the kernel panicks with OS X. I had it kernel panick with the demo. It damaged the harddrive such that I could not boot from it. I had to repair it from CD.

1. No, as far as I know. You can have multiple accounts on GameSpy, I believe.
2. Santa Head, the guy who created the WWII plugin for Myth 2 was actually hired by the developers of Myth 3 and was part of the development team (and testing team), so I imagine there will be a WWII plugin any day now.
Anywho, I don't like Myth 3 -- it just doesn't have the nice feel of M2. Add in some really lame effects and lack thereof, it was an overall disappointment for me. But that's just me -- go ahead and give the demo a try.
Oooh, get my map at the The Mill that I made for Myth 2. It's called Knuckle of the Oasis. Fun for the whole family.
