Is Age of empires 2 going to be released on a mac? if so, when? what is the best strategy/civilization type game for the mac?

Yes, AoK is going to be released foir the mac but I dont know when. Microsoft is supposed to form a new compnay and port most of their games to the mac bu when is anybody's idea.

While you're waiting for AOK, try out Alpha Centauri. Great game. Or, even though it's pretty old, Master of Orion II. Both are strategy/civilization type games, although MOO2 puts more emphasis on combat and Alpha Centauri puts more on technology and development.
