I can't comment on all mouses but the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer has software that lets you set every single button to do whatever you want, be it click or a keystroke or whatever, and lets you do this for every application or game you have so it is quite versatile. so yes... the second mouse button can work as command-click.

I've got a kensington optical mouse pro, and it works just fine for everything. I have right click mapped as control-click for most applications, and games, like UT, or Q3A all work fine with the optical tracking.

Nah, do what I do - Pro Mouse for normal use, and a multi-button ball mouse for gaming. You don't really need a second mouse button in the MacOS.
I mean... its nice but by no means necessary.
Ball is the way to go for games.
I also plan on getting a trackball... for normal use...

I use my trackball for everything; I think trackball is especially useful for games like UT cause you don't end up moving off the table all the time =)

I don't know about optical mice for gaming...the ones I've tried don't work as well as ball mice. They have problems registering fast movement, like when you need to spin around and frag someone behind you. The best gaming mouse of all, the Razer boomslang, is a ball mouse. I'd stick with the tried and true if I were you (and save money, too).
