Wow, you've clearly never played quake 3 at any length. I used to like UT better too, when I'd never played Quake 3 before. UT has better CTF and it has assault, and it's bots (who cares) are better. Q3 has graphics, performance, and fun. Even the single player is more fun that UT's. UT is way too newbie friendly, I dont' care if the weapons have 2ndary fires if it takes no skill to use them. Unreal was much better than UT except for bots. Q3. Now there was no reason for you to troll on in here and be an Unreal Fanboy, so I don't want to see any more from you.

Jesus, what the hell do you think "Invalid CD Key" means?
Go buy the game and enter in the CD key found on the CD case into settings/cd key.
If you play internet games you wont be able to crack the CD key, if two users use the same one the number is disabled.
It's the only piece of software I ever bought. Well done ID for implementing a successful pirate proof system.
Anyway the game is well worth any sum of money.

well in os9 it doesn't in osX i get constant invalid cdkey
and i when i remove everything from quake and reinstall the piece the osX version still knows the serial that was in there...
So the os9 version works, by entering NO cdkey, but i still have invalid cdkey on some servers. so osX has a file somewhere in its library with the cdkey... grrr. I thought mac appz didnt put there files all over my HD...

I get the same message, but that's only because the id server has started checking for keys again.
They do this on and off. I hope it goes down sometime soon.
I just don't use the id master server to join multiplayer games. I only play on a few tournament/Rocket Arena servers, so I'm all good. Unfortunately, RA3 didn't work on the Mac very well. Hopefully, Rocket Arena 3 1.6 will have better Mac compatability.
Meanwhile, check out q3.toocool.com . They have an awesome mod that prevents all cheating. I say this with three years of experience with Quake 3. One of my clan members (well, ex-member now) was using a bot on 1.30. You can still wallhack (see people through walls) in 1.30. CPMA prevents all of this. Also, they have a kick-ass multiplayer server located in San Jose, California. I get a ping of 9-15 there. Look for me! I use the name "infinity" with whatever prefix. I usually hop clans pretty often.

I love my Quake. I bought Quake 3 and UT. Quake 3 is the only game I play. There is simply no comparison and ended giving UT to a bud of mine. He played it for awhile, but now he only plays Quake as well. Nothing touches it as far as I am concerned.
OK, Quake heads... a little off the topic, but help me out here. Now I am not the best player out there, but I hold my own just fine. Don't laugh or flame, but what is wrong with "camping" in a crowded room? It's a strategy is it not, and to my mind a sound one when a room fills up. Close in fighting is more action oriented, and I do love to mix it up just as much as the next guy, but close in play in a crowded room on a G4-450 with marginal pings on a cable modem can be nothing short of suicidal . Why invite being killed over and over under these circumstance when you can try and glean an advantage. Savvy players will often catch on to my strategy and nail my ass quite often anyway.
Look at our present circumstances in the war we are engaged in. The ground war hasn't really yet begun as we are still taking out hard targets with the air campaign. We're "camping" in the air. Night and day raids are forcing the enemy to play on OUR TERMS. Some of this is obviously for political reasons, but it's mostly to prepare the battlefield and minimize loss of life for us and our allies.
So is occasional "camping" really viewed as bad play by most everyone universally , or has is it more to do with not playing on their preferred terms... i.e. those players who only want to engage you in the more action oriented close in fighting??? OR, are they just getting sore because they begin to lose so badly?? By the way, by camping, I don't mean necessarily sitting on a weapon spot and continually reloading. I simply mean sniping from a more remote, distant stationary spot... usually in the space games.
What are your opinions?
