Ick at the X-box. Shame on Micro$oft for getting involved in the console industry—they have no business in it; leave it to Nintendo and Sony (and Sega, now a software company). Speaking of which, I can't wait to get my GameCube next month!

Save your money for the Linux kit that is going to be widely available for the PS2 soon. An OS, modem, keyboard, mouse, word processor, web browser and hard drive to transform your PS2 into a Linux box. There will also be a monitor adaptor.

According to early reports, it works just like windows, errorwise that is (and I'm not kidding!)

Yep, I've heard several reports of X-Box demo units crashing. While i'm eyeing some of the games that coming out on the X-Box with envy (OK, just one - Halo), I have no intention of buying one. I have no desire to see M$ monopolise another market, or failing that, spread their tentactles into the living room (there are rumours that a successor to the X-Box is in the works. This device - reportedly called the homestation - will play DVDs, "movies, music and all the other content that will be piped over Microsoft .NET service, including instant messaging. Additionally, the device will also serve as a digital TV recorder.")

If the X-Box has a crash problem it will flop big time. If there's one thing console gamers will not tolerate, it's instability. And if it lies at the system level, that's the kiss of death. There is nothing worse than sitting in front of a game for a few hours and having all the work you just did go down the drain. And don't tell me "you should've saved." Duh. Sometimes games are better if you can't save every 30 seconds. When the next save point is a ways off on a very difficult level, I don't want the damn game to crash right as I'm kicking some major butt. I haven't had a console crash in a good long while. Thankfully Nintendo, Sega, and Sony have learned this lesson. MS? Let's hope that's true, or maybe not.

On a separate note:
GameCube soon! GameCube soon! I think I'm gonna have to buy a sleeping bag soon. I want to make sure I get a choice of colors when I pick up my pre-ordered box. Then it's off to playing Rogue Squadron 2 endlessly while sacrificing work, sleep, nutrition, health, and sanity.

While I'm just as anti microsoft as the rest of you guys are, I have a few things I can say from plenty of experience. Microsoft should definatly stay out of the Video game console business, but my dad is a commercial photographer and one of his main clients is Nintendo. I've played around the system a bit and it's not that great. I have high hopes for SSBMelee but the waverace game sucked and luigis mansion had good graphics but horrible gameplay. But these are english betas and slightly buggy so who knows...

Hee. Hee.

It would appear that their demo units aren't working to well. And these are supposed to be final hardware.

I don't want a mini computer, thanks. I want a CONSOLE from a company that has always produced fine products (we won't speak of Virtual Boy) and fine franchises. I've been hooked since the NES. No need for a super-console that does everything—just want a machine to play Mario and Zelda, and the like.

Have you SEEN Rogue Squadron 2? Wowzerz!

The advantages of turning the PS2 into a Linux box are the following:

-allows users to have a cheap computer for simple applications and internet
-takes away some of Microsoft's dominanca
-Provides programmers with an OS to program games and apps on a powerful compact solution
-Creates a new generation of non-Microsoft programmers who are Unix and therefore OSX friendly
-Allows a front end to launch games and DVDs so that one may play games online and access DVD features
-Should be networkable with any other Unix box
