Well...thanks to IMG, I now have AvP! Got it in the mail today! Kinda surprised me. Also its not packaged like games usually are. It's in a DVD case and has box like info all over it.
Anyway, the game rocks and kicks ass!

Look forward to killing on GR!

Cipher don' t bother replying if you're just gonna say something stupid. I for one am glad to hear he got his copy as I'm eagerly awaiting mine. Yea the graphics are dated, but it's a fun game(especially if you're a fan of the Alien and to a lesser extent Predator movies).

Yeah...cipher is well know for his sarcasm and (usually) pointless posts. But, I won't hold that against him.

Anyway, AvP IS awesome...even though I have already beat it for the PC about 1 1/2 years ago. Still just as good and revitalizing.

Well, let me take this opportunity to add another useless, sarcastic post; though, its somewhat lacking sarcasm, becuase, well... its early. Don't like my posts? Don't read them. Quite simple indeed

Now, imacman11... "usually" useless posts? Would you mind finding some evidence for this claim?

You see, I usually stick to a 15:1 ratio of uselessnes to usefullness

Oh, really? Well, when you graduate to real games, lets do it

Oh - and to be a real asshole, wanna decrease the sig image to 120*35 < 10K?

Cipher,
There's a difference between having a somewhat useless post and just being a jerk. Why you are so insistent on panning AvP is beyond me. What is your reason for disliking it so much? Second, in terms of imacman's "i'll take you on anytime" I think that was directed at me, meaning when I get my copy of AvP he'd challenge me to a deathmatch. Third, what are your kind of games? The only games I play on my Mac are UT and AvP(once it comes). Perhaps I have too much of a life to be such a hardcore gamer as others, but I enjoy them. So tell me, besides positing constantly on Macnn what does a 17 year old in Australia do for fun? I know if I was in Australia right now, the last thing I'd wanna do is be posting on Macnn

I just find AvP a REALLY crappy game; everything about it.
Lame ass graphics from like 1997, the motion sucks (it isn't at all fluid), and its just well... boring. You know. Blah. Nothing.

My mistake - though I'll challenge either of you at a decent game (and probably get my ass kicked).

My kind of games... hm. Unreal Tournament, Descent 3, Total Annihilation... they're pretty much the three. Others interspersed, but its those that I always come back to.

And yeah, I only post on MacNN when I am home. I don't sleep much. If I get home at 3am... then I get on here for a couple of hours. Heh.

about the dated graphics:
The guys at Contraband Entertainment have added "some" stuff to the engine. e.g. it can do 32-bit graphics, it supports higher resolutions, can do higher texture quality and so on -> this is cool!

I have tried AvP and I do not like it that much, but as I am no fan of shooters at all, this is not very impressing, but its the same taking all games: some people like them, others do not, I do not see a problem here, just because its not my taste, I just do not post or post other comments but to be that impolite is not the way to go.

Well from what I remember of the jaguar AvP looked like it was going to kick major ass!

of course I think that was about 7th grade...so um....7 years ago?
A games a game. if Someone likes it good, enjoy. If someone doesn't then don't play it and move on to something else.

The thing is though, I *do* love 3D shooters; Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament (personal fave FPS), Wolfenstein, and corridor shooters such as Forsaken and Descent... this game, while in the same genre as the first few... just plain sucks. It's not a matter of "you don't like that kind of game".

Hehe, sounds good to me

I've been playing Descent 3 more than anything else lately... when I get into UT... I find myself trying to strafe upwards!!

It feels so limiting being back in a gravity-affected plane... *sigh*

Gotta love corridor shooters
They truly are another dimension...

Heh... This is good.

You see, Cipher, I have already mastered and beat everyone at both UT and Q3A... They hold no new surprised or thrills. All *I* ever hear is "HEAD SHOT", and "MMMMMONSTER KILL". So, you see, I welcome a new (semi) challenge instead of staying only with what I am comfortable.

Anyway, I like the mud-slinging...keep it going!!!

While I woudln't call myself a master at it, not by a longshot, certain games that I have mastered; well, I come back to them too.

Perfection is unattainable; but I'll get as close to it as I can.

Total Annihilation for example... I don't lose. Ever. Yet I still play; against different computer AI's, against different human players; honing skills.

Even though I've beaten them all.

UT is the same; it's that good I don't get bored of it.

Until the day I hear "head shot" every time I pull the trigger, and I hear Godlike ring out at least once a match... I'll keep at it

If you honestly want a challenge - go get Descent 3. AMAZING!

(start off-topic rant)

Bah, you guys and yer fancy ranged weaponry!

Yer not really playin' th' game until ye've mastered the weapons what let ye see the look of stark terror on yer opponent's face just before ye splash his guts all over the terrain! That's right, I use the Impact Hammer and I'm damn proud of it!

There's nothin' more thrillin' than runnin' about the maps crankin' up that lovely little beastie and seein' grown men running from you like scared rabbits! There's no sound more lovely than the grindin' and thumpin' the hammer makes and it's that sound that puts the fear in other's hearts! Fear it! Fear the strains of that lovely Cybernetic Pig in Heat!!

(end rant)

More on topic, AvP is quite fun -- it's not the graphics or the gameplay that really draw me in, tho. I'm a big fan of the Aliens movies (well, except for 3 & 4 -- those don't exist to me), and this game really captures the feel of them.

I've mastered Quake 3, the one game my friends refuse to play me in. Personally I agree on that "AvP is outdated, it sucks ass" side. If only there were new and original games on mac, everything is just getting so old. I bet there is going to be a ranting post totally disagreeing with my opinion "bla bla bla you're wrong its a good game bla bla bla" so I'll ask that nobody does that, i'm in a sour mood right now for some reason. Besides, this is my opinion. so...nyaaa!!
Ok its time to get some sleep
