Please STOP arguing with ca$h68 and Cipher13 in the other thread.

Post praise for Diablo II here.

Let's all try to agree on one thing... Mac's rule! and PC's kinda suck!

PS I haven't even played the game, my son really got addicted to it when it was first released. I'm sure I would enjoy it.

PPS I thought the title of the post would create quite an uproar! Devilish of me eh?

I love my PC. Stop freaking dissing them.

Dude, I mean, everyone hates PC's here. It's personal preference. To you, they may suck. Mine's flawless. It's a bazillion times faster than my Macs, and they crash about half as much.

Sorry, I just hate it when people diss something without a basis or supporting their thesis with no cold facts.

Nothing against PCs, I use them at work and they do an excellent job. But as to crashing half as often as my iMacs? Tell me what to do to get my PCs that stable. I'm running Windows NT servers (mirrored) with Win98 Clients. Sure, they're reasonably stable and I wouldn't bother mentioning this excpept: Both my iMacs (Lime iMacDV and Summer 2K Graphite) are more stable with far fewer crashes. I'm not knocking PCs - I just want the stability you have with yours.

BTW, as an electrical engr, I can't hate PCs. Macs just don't have nearly as many engineering apps available. OTOH, my iMac SE makes an excellent home computer - not to mention the IDEAL networked Client (from my experience). And VT100 emulation means I can dialup my jobs and do at least some remote programming from home. Note to Apple - please return the terminal emulation module removed from AppleWorks 6 that was present in AppleWorks 5. It may not be as complete as HyperTerm, but it was useable despite the lack of pF key mapping.....joe

seanpeyez,
I believe PCs have their pros and cons vs. Macs.
Most office appls were always faster on PCs than on Macs. I mean Office xxx from Microsoft, Internet Explorer from Microsoft, and lots of ported games.
Internet Explorer 5 on Mac still lags well behind PC's counterpart. Office 2001 isn't that bad, if you notice it's quite up to par to Office 2000 for PC.
But the same discussion can be conducted on the other side. Every time I got to use Photoshop on a PC it was so slow compared to Macs that it felt bad to use it. Same goes for every publishing related appl (XPress and PageMaker). Same was for early Dreamweaver and web application.
I believe PCs are still ahead of Macs in the database connectivity platform. There isn't still (unfortunately) any competition (apart from tools like 4D, great software but a low share on the db market). Games? You have some that play better on PC and some that play better on Macs (let's not forget Marathon ecc. came from a software house that's been acquire from Microsoft to port Mac games there and not rest behind the competition).

As usual the difference is in creativity. In 16 years of personal computing the most revolutionary pieces of software came out on the Mac platform. The same was for hardware.
Until there is competition there will always be some great things for us users...

The only stuff that ever crashes my Macs are Internet Explorer and Office 2001. I'd say they do it about every other day.

Go figure, the MS apps...

Both my friend's desktop (Win98) and laptop (Win2K) have far more problems.

Just a note that Microsoft didn't acquire Bungie to port their games to the Mac. Microsoft acquired Bungie to develop games for the X-Box, and they'll allow some of those same games to be released for other systems like the Mac and PC. However, Peter Tamte is in the process of forming an outside company with funding from Microsoft and Apple that will port and publish Microsoft games. They'll use third-party developers to start (such as Westlake, Contraband, Evolution, etc.) and eventually try to bring programmers in-house to do them.

first of all, Im a mac freak, thats unarguble, 2nd, those mac freaks who think pc's sux, aint mac freaks, those who use macs are smart, now tell me is it smart to say that the worlds most used comp system with all the frickin stuff n' games sucks???

shjeeze guys stop hate pc's, love macs like pc's, I mean, surely pc's crash more often then macs, surley pc's get so much more games than the mac, surley pc's are much better than macs in ur office, though 99 % of all the big graphic companies in the worl uses macs..
well, why am I mac freak than?
My mum is a webdesigner(Im 13) she uses a mac, the first comp I ever used was an old old power mac, then 1 year ago I got my iMac and Im stuck in the macworld, u cant stop, its like smoking(however that is)
well, lets leave the mac-pc thing, Diablo 2

what a great game!!!... I thought the first month I played it, after then I realized what it really is, its a modern copy of diablo 1 with a bigger world, cash, who u all seem to hate, has pretty much right I think, all u acctually do is clicking and reciving info to ur brain, it aint action, it isnt adventure, it aint RPG(all too litle possibilities), not rts, not ats, its just clicking, u cant say anything else, I mean it doesent require any kind of skill does it?
u all say, oh, the skill trees demand skill!
what fricking skill, its a f***ing game of luck, after uve completed all quests on all lvls theres just exp left to do.
whats the fun in goin in a 2 dimensional( only the lightning makes it look 3d) world clicking on monsters, hey all u diablo 2 freaks, u should start playing other games, and youll realize how fun they are man..
ur like locked in a box only playing diablo 2.
and mr cybergreg who think ur so cool.
why should u use forums if not arguinging
"Post praise for diablo 2 here"
whats the good in that guys???
I praise games who demands skill and can be played many times again and again and again, starcraft, myth 2, rainbow 6, unreal tournament, quake 3 arena(hmm), civ 2 gold edition(this game got the most "game of the millenium reward" of all games)
these and many others require skill, diablo 2 doesent, diablo 2's real public is probably ment for stupid swetty 17 year old computer nerds who all they do is playing diablo 2 and chating and thin they look soo good with theyr 3 mter long hair and 11 feet long toe nails, shjeeze guys, give ur selfs a moment to think and youll probably think as I do...

well, this msg is already too long so I guess it ends right here.

sincerely

Wrong phrasing but same concept Trevor...
I meant Microsoft bought Bungie to port games there, obviously to port Mac games on PCs...

[i]hey all u diablo 2 freaks, u should start playing other games, and youll realize how fun they are man..
ur like locked in a box only playing diablo 2.[\i]

Who said we weren't playing other games. Right now my rotation includes UT, DeusEx, Civ II, Diablo II, Heroes of Might & Magic III, and assorted shareware and freeware games.

[i]diablo 2's real public is probably ment for stupid swetty 17 year old computer nerds who all they do is playing diablo 2 and chating and thin they look soo good with theyr 3 mter long hair and 11 feet long toe nails, shjeeze guys, give ur selfs a moment to think and youll probably think as I do...[\i]

Sounds like the majority of gamers. No offense, but I stopped thinking like a 13 year old 23 years ago.

age makes smart right?
"No offense, but I stopped thinking like a 13 year old 23 years ago."
oh well mr "36"
u acctually claiming ur arguments are better than mine because of ur age?? well, about being locked in the diablo 2 box, I didnt say u were, but I assumed u were cause the only reason to play Diablo 2 is the same reason as when u go singing songs u even hate, but u just got stucked at them, its not a good reason, but its an arguable one though.
and yes, u seem to be a very forward example of the "diablo2playerspecies", not only playing diablo 2,
[no offense]
still, if u got UT and civ 2 u have NO reason to play diablo 2, all the other games u said where miles better than diablo, so once and again, it all hangs on the fight beetween a fast mind, good reaction table and tactical mind vs ur thumbmuscleature (ur skill of klicking)
last of all, I just wanted to tell ya Im very smart for my age, Ive been discussing things at political lvl(yes its true!)
and are helping my school planning our next year budget!
I'm best in my frickin class in every f***ing thing.
I know some webdesign(html, java, and a little cgi)
Ive argued with many adults driving them angry because I always win the arguments(I allways get the last word)
I did a movie in school and then it got official as an example of how to make different schoolwork.
we had a 30 years old guy ib school arguing with our class about stuff, at the end it was only me and him arguing and at the end even our teacher was on my side in the argument,
I dont even live in a english speaking country!

age dont make smart, personality makes smart

Personality has nothing to do with intelligence.
Intelligence is intelligence, whether 'liquid', or 'crystal', or 'logical' or whatever you want to call it.
Viper, sorry to break this to you, but very many of this forums regular members are of the same calibre as you, some less so, some more so...
All I'm saying is don't take it for granted that your intelligence exceeds anyone else heres intelligence... it won't in all cases, and this complex it seems you may have could get you into trouble...
Just some friendly words of advice based on what I can gather from you in two posts, so I am probably wrong, but... you never know eh?
I'll agree with you that age has NOTHING to do with intelligence too... age means nothing except when you can start drinking, and start driving... legally

Viper-

I wasn't saying that I thought I was smarter than you because I was older (or for any other reason). I was trying to say, perhaps badly, that in my life, during those additional years from 13 to 36, I've learned to be more tolerant of those who don't share my opinions.

And don't think too badly of me; DII is still only number 3 on my list of most time wasted this month (for computer games at least). Nothing will top Civ II, at least not for a while, but I do like mindless fun and the lottery aspects of DII every now and then as I'm not real good with FPS games (thus making UT fun but frustrating when some player with better reflexes and skills frags me, frequently and repeatedly )

Again, sorry if I didn't make my meaning clear.

If that's true, then you better start taking some "personality" lessons, because from your post I would have to say you are not Mr. Congeniality.

It's good that you are not registered, because you might want to consider starting over. I am relatively new here, and this will be my first official flame(very low tone) on this newsgroup.

As much as people complain about Cipher13, at least he has earned his right to banter(2000+ posts), but even he does not post messages(not that I have read, yet ) claiming how smart he is, or how he always gets the last word.

You can email me some of your JAVA source at:
tpitts@mac.com
I would love to see the caliber of your work, but forgive me if I don't expect much, because your last post was not very convincing.

BTW, I like Diablo 2 very much. Not everyone does, b/c opinions vary from genre to genre. Oh well.

Viper --

If you're going to use the phrase "mac freak" a lot, capialize it differently... I read that long post as a big long insult at first!

But at least I fit the description -- I love Macs, but I don't bitterly despise PC's.

My 2 cents. PCs don't suck per se. There are cheap parts and quality parts that make each one unique in it's operation. But I think in no uncertian terms, cannot be swayed from, and will someday stand dowtown with my hair all wild looking, as scruffy as the bums, that "MiroSoft SUCKS! They couldn't code themselves out of a wet paper bag I'm glad they're in Redmond where it pisses down rain like Britian!"

Anyone got a link to a Diablo II demo? I followed the link at macnn games to Diablo II homepage, but no demo, only trailers. I hate to blow that sort of cash when it might suck.

Yeah, and about the PC vs. Mac thing, I can guarantee you all that Diablo is better on a PC. PCs are better at games, no question about it...now for everything else, that's another story and belongs in a different forum.

There's no Mac demo. Very recently there was an unofficial release of a PC demo for the game. It's basically an updated version of the stress test build which only gives you half of one Act and only access to the Barbarian. Honestly, you'll get more of the Diablo II experience by watching the trailers, getting your hands on some in-game footage and looking at some screenshots of all of the different Acts and characters.

I don't know if would really call Diablo II awesome. When I first bought it I thought so but after killing Diablo I don't think so. It not a bad game but after trying the Oni demo I think I end up getting that game and playing it instead of Diablo II.

Well, I do agree that Oni was initially far more fun to play...even though it is hard to compare because of the genré difference. However, the great thing about DII is it's longevity - it's such a great game to play for a few months.

Oni, on the other hand, may have umpteen levels (I don't know), but when you finish...what then???? No multiplayer, and there's no diverse storyline like Deus Ex, as far as I can figure. So, who do you show your awesome combos to???? Who do you use them on????

In DII, whenever I find some superior oranate piece of shiet I can jump online and show it to my buddy and trade for something else, or just kill the sucker and take his stuff anyway.....

That's one of the great things about DII. I'm damn proud of my Lvl 51 Necro...bring it on......

After beating Oni's 19 levels, you can play it again as any character in the game. (You can do the same thing in the demo using a cheat.) But I think he's right, Diablo II will offer more longevity for those that like the gameplay.

Well.....I'll KICK this post back inot shape, back to it's TRUE topic....I think...

There are many arguments about which is better, Mac or PC. In my own personal opinion...I would say....both! Get the best of both worlds!
