I just picked up my first mac, and am looking to see what games I can play on it that I already own. I got Quake 3 to run by downloading the latest 1.30 patch for OS X, then copying the pak0.pk3 file off my Windows Quake 3 disk to the base folder. I'm wondering if there is something similar I can do to get Unreal Tournament working.

Also, is there a site that shows what games came on hybrid disks, or have procedures like Quake 3 for getting it to work?

Thanks

I too would like to see a page who shows wich game discs wich work on both PC and mac. Haven't seen anything yet about UT. I know at least FAKK 2, Quake1, Quake3 arena, Q3 team arena, Diablo2 exp. pack, Hexen 2, and a few other minor games would work. Actually I honest hope that UT doesn't work with the PC version right now, since I just have ordered it. I took the iSub to. I guess it's gona rock wild with UT..

I too recently went fully Macintosh, and I had to re-purchase Unreal Tournament for Macintosh. First, it supports mac gaming-second, Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition is only 20 bucks...well worth it.

For some reason, I haven't seen any resellers here in Norway which have UT Game of the year, or Quake3 Gold. Sad indeed.
What's on the UT GOTY edition versus UT?

I went looking for this here in town today, and found no Mac copies of UT at CompUSA, but they did have the "Game of the Year" edition in the PC area. Is it a hybrid disk, or was a seperate version created for the Mac? The only Mac copy I found was at a local Mac dealer, and it was the origional version for $50 still.

The game I have stared though is Journeyman Projectegasus Prime. I have played the 3 origional games, but never had access to a powerful enough system to play the copy I bought for $10 a year ago. (I'm a big adventure gamer, and I like the fact that Myst III is a hybrid. I plan on starting that next on my Mac).

UT GOTY has extra maps and skins n stuff, AFAIK, and $20 to boot (right on, Phorte). Whether you have a fast connection or not, it'll sure save you some time. If you can't find it locally, there's always Amazon. No hybrid disc for any UT that I've ever heard of.

Well according to the news today, an Apple store is opening 45 miles from me. I'll probably head up there this weekend, and see about increasing my games. Plus look at the iPod first hand and see how soon another hole in my pocket is going to form.

Unreal Tournament: Game of the year edition also is version 436, and includes all the official bonus packs.

Grab the Macintosh copy.

The Apple Store does have a pretty good selection of games. The games section isn't huge, but it's packed tight with titles. Definitely worth a browse. Plus, it's always nice to stand in front of a dual-800 with cinema display and pretend just for a moment...

Again, Phorte, you have bested me with info. v436 it is, resplendent with bonus paks all. For all kinds of info and a cool place to play, try Clan MacAddict. I played there for a couple months when it was just starting up. You'll be taken to school, but it's a fun place to learn. Just don't shoot your flag carrier off a cliff and you'll be okay. (yes, capture the flag rules) Heck, while I'm at it, here's a link to the FPS newbie article I wrote for MG. Let us know when you get the game and we can all strategize together.

He would be refering to using PC data files on the PC cd in combination with Macintosh Application files i.e. Quake like he mentioned above which is a pc cd. He downloaded the application file from id and then copied the data files into the appropriate folders.

Q3 is playable via the Windows distribution and a Mac download because of a design/marketing consideration from id. They stopped selling a Mac-boxed (I think Linux as well) version of the game and said that they'd provide a Mac binary via their site to anyone who bought the Windows distribution.

It's luxury you can afford when you (a) design your game well and (b) do all the ports yourself. So, for UT, I wouldn't expect it- Westlake Interactive did the port, and I don't think they'd offer free distributions to people shelling out money directly to Epic.
