if you want any sort of decent frame rates ditch the ATi crap and get a Nvidia card.

UT runs ....okay....ish.....not really. But you can!
Q3 is great, Alice is alot of twisted fun, heard Tropico and BG2 run like crap....unfortuneitly that is about all the commercial games I can think of.

The nVidia cards have shitty drivers.

And... well, my ATi plays everything fine. UT, Alica, Total Annihilation, Quake III, Tony Hawk... they all run smooth...

I have a B/W G3/450. Should I get a Radeon card? Would that be better than my Rage 128 that came with it?

With apples mad smarts i also go the 17 inch CRT with ADC so it is pretty hard for me to find a radeon or and nvidia card with ADC and I am hardly going to drop an additional 150 plus for a DVI to ADC converter. but thanks for the help. I have Quake III and UT I think I will go with alice. Dose anyone have a link to either a Radeon or nvidia card with ADC?

Airburst is a fun game that can be played in X. Granted it's not a commercial game, but even shareware games can be fun.

Edit:

Forgot to add that I have played the demo of Tony Hawk and it kicks ass, juts haven't gotten around to buying it yet.

hey boys,
this is by far not all!
If you like simulations, go buy the sims. they are os x-ready and are fun for some type of people :-)

if you like flight sims, grab Fly 2, it also supports Joysticks!

if you like tony hawk, grab it. the os x-version is really good, using gamepad companion you can also use your gamepad

Ut is out for OS X (while the port is very bad), Quake 3 is good, as Elite Force, Heavy Metal FAKK 2, Oni, Return to Castle Wolfenstein (free for now! and Giants: Citizen Kabuto. all 3d shooters. Oh I forgot alien vs. predator.

The choice is getting bigger day by day and you should not have a problem to grab a good game that is x ready

Actually, SteveJobs, although FlyII has a big "OS X" sticker on the box, and it can be seen in the OS X aisle of the Apple Stores, it, in fact, does not run properly on OS X. There was no joystick support at all until a week or so ago, and even after the update, the frame rates and detail levels are still terrible (1 or 2 frames per sec at 640x480, sparce detail on my G4-400 AGP with Rage 128). Frame rates aside, the interface is a hack, with "aqua" controls slapped onto some "custom" interface. You can see both the aqua buttons, and the buttons they created themselves for the windows. In fact, you have to hit their "X" to close a window; clicking the red aqua button does not work.

I'm waiting for X-Plane, which has a great OS 9 version now, and they claim they'll have an OS X version in a few weeks. And with theirs, you can try the demo and see how it runs on your machine before you buy. Before you let anyone say your mac or video card is too slow for 3-D flight, sims, try X-Plane. Their OS 9 version beats the pants off FlyII's OS 9 version, and I'm sure their OS X version will be top-notch. http://www.x-plane.com/

Hmm.. Nobody has mentioned Parsec yet..
It got ported during this summer, and it's a pretty good network game. There are now versions for Linux, Windows, Mac OS, and now also Mac OS X. Thought, the X version is in a early stage, and is not optimized, but I have managed to tweak the settings a bit, so it runs pretty well on my hardware in X.1. When it some day reach final stage, it's gonna run much smoother. And best of all, it's free!
Their goal is to make a non commercial game, which is just as good as a commercial game. It's indeed a very interesting project. They have been working on it from -96 I guess. Worth a look.
