My wife and I are having problems playing Alien Crossfire networked games. Yes we have loaded the SMAC 1.5.2 and the Alien Crossfire 1.2.1 updates.

What happens is the game just "goes-out-to lunch", it gets stuck trying to synchronize or something. This always happens with the person that "joined" the game.

What I'm wondering is if anyone else can play networked games with OS 9.1 and an Airport network?

We used to play networked games a few months back, but not on our iBook's, we played the networked games on an iMac and a G3, so I'm wondering if SMACX and SMAC work over an Airport network.

As a side note we've played a some other networked games, STV Elite Force and Quake III have played just fine.

As a last ditch effort I re-installed the updates and trashed the preferences.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks

Well this is sad...

Looks like my wife and I are either:
1. The only ones to have a problem with networked Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire
or
2. The only ones play networked Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire games

Looks like no one can help...

Oh well

Try asking for help in comp.sys.mac.games.strategic. The lead programmer on the Mac version of those titles helps people out there pretty religiously.

Yes, they'll both (SMAC and SMACX) be carbonized; most of the preliminary work was done a long time ago. There are still a few aspects that are in limbo (a working DrawSprocket under OSX and carbonized GameRanger) but for the most part, there's no reason why it won't eventually happen. No timeframe as of yet, of course.

Brad, its good to hear that you are working on the patches still. it shows that u are commited to the game u helped port over. however, can u update me on the progress of the multiplayer patch that would enable net-play (via GameRanger)? has there been any progress or has it just stopped?
