Okay I've had to succumb to the dark side of the foce and I've built my own PC (I've still got my Cube though!) and I was wondering if I could you'se any of my Mac games on it?
I've got, amongst others, Q3A, UT, Starwars pod racer, 4X4 EVOloution, Heavy Metal Fakk2, ST Elite force, Deus Ex, The Simms, Descent 3, Oni and Tomraiders 2 and 3.

the answer is most likely no, because these are made or ported to the mac platform to run on a Mac OS not windows, but you could try inserting the CDs into your PC and see if they are hybrid CDs as many developers distribute both mac and pc versions of their game on one CD. Other than that, you can't play them on a PC.

The answer for at least one game on that list is YES! Quake 3 will work on the mac/pc wether it's a hybrid cd or not. Here's all you have to do. Take your Q3 CD, and put it in your PC Since you will not be able to install the game itself, all you are going to do is drag the BaseQ3 folder into a Quake3 folder on your PC. Then all you have to do is download the latest PC Q3 Patch (1.30 i believe). Once thats done, just install the patch in the same Quake3 folder, and enjoy. You can find that some games on the PC and Mac that share the same data files will all work this way. Especially Q3, as you dont have to actually run the installer if you don't want to. Take Care.

Roders,
No, they won't work, except MAYBE the Quake 3 idea posted above. Unless the CDs are hybrid, you're going to have to do what I did and buy the games for the PC. Once you get a taste of 4-point audio you'll never go back

You MIGHT also be able to do UT and Deus Ex.
Cuz i got the full pc version of deus ex to work on top of the mac demo version.
You just gotta do it the other way around.
All i did was put all the full version files in the right folders for the demo app, and play a bit with the files in the deus ex system folder. i think i just managed to get the right combination. i dont think i changed any files...but yeah it worked.

Is'nt the only ting I'll need to change the excutable (the actual game app) as in most cases this seems to be the only Mac specific code.

well, roders, having the same code as the pc counterpart can be a good thing, especially for multiplayer online games like Q3, and UT. This assures us that you can play against pc users, AND that the games will be released at pretty much the same time.. Take blizzard for example. Most of their games use the same code, which is why they are hybrid cd's as well as the games being released at the same time for both platforms. If you look at all the games that Aspyr releases are ports from the PC thus they take longer to get to the mac. You can look at it either way....sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesnt. Cheers
