I'm new to Unreal Tournament and have encountered a problem with skins. Playing a multi-player game between my brother and myself (both computers with the exact same skins installed), we notice that only the person hosting a multi-player game sees the proper skins. The other person sees a generic commando skin during play, then after the opposing player is killed, the body is rendered with a plain solid green texture.

Sound familiar to anyone? Suggestions?

Are you certain that you are using the basic skins? This sounds like exactly what happens when a "custom" skin is used that is not available on all clients, but I've also seen it when the "bonus" Skins from UT are used. (i.e. Xan Mark II). Make sure "force basic skins" is not checked on the server.

Yes, they are custom skins. But, I installed the exact same skins on both machines. There's a option that says "Force Basic Skins"? I'll check for that tonight at home. Thanks for the info.

Here's an Unreal newbie question for ya. If I'm hosting a game and I have a custom skin, what happens when someone without that skin connects to my server. Will they automatically download it? Also, it there an etiquette for that? Do most players use the standard skins for that reason? Wouldn't want to tick anyone off! Thanks!

I'm not really sure about 'net ettiquete, as I refuse to play games with strangers over TCP/IP when I have so many willing victims with whom I can share a few post-game beers.

We had this problem crop up on our LAN server with custom skins and with the "special" built-in UT skins. We never tried very hard to fix it, but did get it fixed for the special built-in skins. I'll contact the server guy later today and ask him how he fixed it, as I'm sure the problems are related.

And with a skin as cool as War Machine, who the hell needs other skins...

;-)

Sorry to be vaugue, but I've been told that part of the solution involves editing of a few of the .ini files. (Look for a skins section)
