What Great Titles Aren't Out for the Mac?

I'm wondering if individuals could weigh in with their opinion on the great titles there are for the PC that we're missing out on. If you had a choice to port any software on the market, what would be the highest priority on your list? I would like to know, basically, whether we really are missing out on a lot of great entertainment, or, conversely, if the allure of PC gaming is just due to the prodigious number of titles available for Wintel. I know one killer title we missed out on is Half Life, but I don't know of too many others. Any thoughts?

Titles we missed out the last months:
Max Payne
Medal of Honor: AA
Operation Flashpoint
Black & White Creature Isle
Mechwarrior 4
Halo
Stuff like this. Highest priority would have Max Payne, since it is a really good game in my opinion. I know it is ported currently, but however, it will take its time to be finished...

Technially, halo isn't out on PC, therefore we (mac users) haven't
missed out on it.
Some games I'd like to see in in Mac native versions are:
1. Half-Life (HL, Opposing Force, Blue Shift)
2. Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine
3. No One Lives Forever
I've heard that No One Lives Forever is coming to Mac, but I haven't
seen it in stores yet.
I'd also like to see a MacOS X native version of VGS (but we all
know that isn't going to happen).

According to this article, No One Lives Forever was supposed to ship last month. Who knows...
There aren't really, IMHO, many games we're missing that aren't in development. Soldier of Fortune, Everquest, HOMEWORLD.

All very insightful posts. I wonder if the Half Life port is at all viable at this point.

I still like to play tribes 2 a few hours a day if I get the chance. I hear tribes 1 was more popular though.

Half-Life (Counter strike)
Worms!
really...there isn't a whole lot. Mainly I wish more companies could bring out the mac version quicker or even a dual launch.

Some games that have been or will be released for PC for which I've heard nothing about a Mac port:
• Half-Life
• Max Payne
• Dungeon Siege
• Pretty much every MMORPG (Asheron's Call 1 & 2, all Everquests, Anarchy Online, etc. )
• Age of Mythology
• Tribes 2
• Serious Sam 1 & 2
There're more, just can't think of them off the top of my head...
|

Be happy.

Games that need to be ported:
Tribes 2
World War II online
Mac needs a massively multiplayer game quite badly, and not something gay/lame like Everquest.

I though WWII Online was suppose to be ported. I'd say FS2002, and perhaps GT3? Someone I want GT3 on MAC!

GTA3
Serios Sam one &/or two
Thief three the metal age
project Eden
Rayman 3
Some Codemasters games; Colin Macrae rally 2.0/3.0, Operation flashpoint etc
ALL Good Q3 engined games e.g Medal of Honour allied assault
Some bloody driving games!!! (Rally trophy etc)
I've allready finished Max Payne and AVP2 on the PC, both brilliant games, I be they'll be here this autumn fore the mac (too late for me).....
I want to sell my PC (gamings the only thing it's good for) and the Mac games scene is pobably bettr than ever, but it still needs to improve.

Serious Sam is in development by some Croation porting house.
Westlake is porting Max Payne.
Someone is making a Mac version of the new Worms game (Blast?).
WW2 Online is in late development for OS X, but I heard it really kind of blows.
You'll never see Half-Life or Counter Strike. Get over it

Whee! Nice to see someone beat me to the punch on a vote AGAINST Everquest. It's a popular game, sure. Great game? Nope nope nope. Besides, EQ's day in the sun has almost passed it by and a new generation of MMORPGs will eventually eclipse it.
Besides, we have Lineage now, and Shadowbane is coming along nicely. Plus, we have Clan Lord!

Castle Wolfenstein will be here, eventually, period.
Anyhow the single player's crap for a new shooter (I bought it, played it, got bored by it) although the multiplayers fantastic.
It's only a hit cause it's an ID game (MOHAA is SO much better and also based on the Q3A engine, so why can't we have that!!!) the multiplayers cool though.
Are you SERIOUS Serious sam's being ported to the Mac????
The original games developers (Croteam) are Croation, and they were only able to do the game's with a really flukey injection of western cash.
So Is Serious Sam being ported to the mac by a Croation developer (the original?) I've heard absoloutely NOTHING about this and have to say that it sounds more like vapour ware than RTCW coming to the mac, to me; for sure.
Although if I'm wrong feel free to flame me while I sulk!

My bad, you're right. I skimmed the article too quickly- they want to bring to the Mac, but haven't made a decision yet...

The area that no ones touched on is sports games. NHL 2K2, Flightsim 2K2, those are games I'd like to see come to the Mac. Has there actually been any since Madden 2000?

Yeah, wonderful, they certainly did make it our way. Macworld gave it a terrible review; my CompUSA loves to stock those titles.
I'm wondering how Wolfenstein multiplayer compares to Counterstrike. . .

Just to let everyone know.
We will never see Half Life on the Mac again.
Porting was about %60 or %70 done YEARS ago and the main developer pulled the plug on it at the last minute in fear of low sales. Something about one of their previous games tanking on the Mac platform.
This was in an old issue of MacAddict. Old issue.

How about NASCAR 4 and I think 5 is coming out any day now. I'd like that since we haven't had one since the original.

I could have sworn I saw this on a store shelf a few weeks ago.
re: Half-life (CS) I know it will never come but most all of these titles will NEVER see the light of the mac. Besides I played it for the first time this weekend and liked it. Like Rogue spear but just more fun

There are quite a few outstanding (and tons of second-rate) adventure games that were never made for Mac. The Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango from Lucasarts, The Longest Journey, last year's top award-receiver in the genre, the Tex Murphy games, to name the least obscure ones. The most sought after third-person action/adventure games that never got to Mac are probably Drakan: Order of the Flame, MDK/MDK2, Prince of Persia 3D, and someone already mentioned Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine (I'm playing this now on my sister's PC; hope the next Indy game that was recently announced makes it to Mac). And I'd add Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight to the list of good FPS's not available for Mac.
At this point, I don't think the Mac versions of Max Payne and No One Lives Forever are unreasonably behind their porting schedules from the time of their announcements. And realMYST is supposed to be out very soon -- you can pre-order it from MacPlay. About this time last year, Deep Space 9 The Fallen and Aliens vs. Predator appeared to have fallen off the face of the Earth but they both eventually made it out, so have faith that we will see the games the Mac publishers have already announced.

Hmm,
I think that Miller is Medal of Honor: AA. So we can put it on the list: probably ported
secondly, i really guess that Operation Flashpoint is Wargames, so I guess we will see it. Wolfenstein should ship any day now, I am sure.
Max Payne is under development.
Flight Simulator from MS is coming towards us by Destineer
And NOva, well, should be out soon, I hope, but this is cool. PC people won't have it, YEAH!

If you wanted great multiplayer games should have gotten a GameCube
As for Halo, your mission out on nothing. Maybe when M$ feels the time is right and it does come out for windows/mac the huge issue with horrible controls will be dealt with...

From my point of view, the main problem facing mac gaming isn't a few good titles (MOH, etc.) not making it to the mac platform. It's the fact that ports take a long time. The porting companies do their best, and I have to congratulate them on what they do, but I generally don't want to wait 3 months, 6 months, or more just to play a game that I can drive down to the store and purchase the day it is released for my PC.
It's sad, but true. I like my macs, I really do. For gaming, the platform isn't all that grand at the moment though.

I believe the Mac gaming industry is the healthiest it has ever been. Now while that's not saying all that much, one has to realize that there just aren't as many Mac gamers out there as PC gamers, due to the obvious fact of marketshare. However, I do believe Apple could do more to assist in the porting efforts so that the titles we're looking for come out earlier. It would be nice to see Apple put a dedicated Mac porting team in each major developer house.

'Grand Prix Legends' of course, the most realistic racing game ever. 'Spirit of Speed 1937' for it's timely feel and visuals.
And Flight Simulator - from Sublogic, it's NOT a program microsoft developed originally - could use an update from the old version 4, too.
