Im having trouble on my iBook SE 466 in Q3. About every 3 seconds, the game locks up for about a 1/2 sec. It's not rendering, because a can but everything at rock-bottom, and take out bots, and stare at the sky, and it STILL happens. I also know it's not extentions, because i've turned all but about 5-8 for 'em off. It's pissing me off, because it didn't used to do that. I've tryed Virtual memory, RAM allocation, initializing my HD TWICE and zeroing all blocks, deleting my Q3 config file and preferences and updating software drivers like OpenGL. I've even used "/com_hunkmegs" to boost Quake 3's inside memory usage. What the hell is going on?! Can someone please help me. It's driving me crazy!
Thanks you VERY much!!!

Did you recently upgrade to v1.27? That sounds like what what happened when I upgraded from v1.17 to v1.27 the 1st time. Guess I should be glad though. I recently tried to upgrade to the most recent v1.27h and the screen goes completely blank. No docs included.

If you're at v1.27, maybe you might want to try deleting the entire folder and installing again from your Quake3 CD. Then upgrade to v1.17 if you can find it. It's the smoothest, fastest, most trouble free version to date (IMHO). good luck........joe

There are two versions of Quake 3 Arena 1.27, G and H. You must upgrade to G and then H. 1.27G installs two more .pak files which are required to run. 1.27H is just an application upgrade.

To fix the stuttering framerates (in most cases) you need to manually change some settings. You can either edit the q3config.cfg file directly or use the Console.
To edit the q3config.cfg file,
1. Open up the q3config.cfg file in the baseq3 folder.
2. Find: s_doppler and s_musicvolume.
3. Change both values from whatever they are to "0"

To edit with the Console:
1. Start up the game.
2. Hit the ~ key to bring down the Console
3. type:
\s_doppler "0"
hit return
4. type:
\s_musicvolume "0"
hit return
5. either quit, or type \snd_restart

It's possible you may just need to change the s_musicvolume setting.

I used to have the same problem and this was way before 1.27 came out.
it just comes and goes of it's own accord, luckily it's been gone for quite a while now.
All I did to remedy the situation was keep playing the game a number of times, nothing else I tried worked, very odd.
