Is Descent 3 available for Mac OS X? If not, when will it be available?

No it's not available. Not yet anyway. Can't say that it will be ported over to OSX. However, I did e-mail Graph Sim about F/A-18 Korea and the possibility of it being portted over to OSX knowing it was one of their older games and the responce was sort of possitive. Rather than saying no, they said they are "looking into it". I'm sure Descent 3 has this same possibility.

A year to the day this thread was opened, -and nothing to show for it.

Geez, Descent 3 must be a really unpopular game.

Ah, but I think Descent 3 is available for OS X. I just played it two weeks ago. Just download the latest update for Descent 3. It contains a carbonized version.

Duane Johnson, who did the original Mac port for Descent 3, said that he's working on a carbonized version in his spare time but he doesn't have anything to release. GraphSim has moved on to other things and doesn't currently have the resources (money) for a full supported carbon version. However, since the Descent series is one of Duane's favorite series (if not his all time favorite) he wants to get a carbon version out.

I would help code to get Descent 3 onto Mac OS X natively. I haven't played it for so long.

On the other hand, I have Defender on the Nintendo GameCube and it's better.

I'm really confused. What are you people talking about? I've been playing a OS X version of Descent 3 for weeks now. It's already available. Just download the last Descent 3 update. It contains an OS 9 version and and OS X version of the game.

I think someone is smoking the crack The latest versions of D3 available from Graphsim only have OS 9 apps. Separate ones for Glide and OpenGL. Now if you can provide a link to the archive you downloaded which contains the supposed OS X version, that'd do much to clear this all up.

Okay, I'm officially an idiot. It must be all the pot. BC pot is too potent. Extremely effective at killing brain cells.

I've been playing Descent in OS X, but via Classic. D'oh! Because I usually have Classic on all the time, launching Descent appears almost seamless, almost as if it's carbonized.

Still, that's no excuse for such a blatantly pathetic error. Sorry to mess with your minds.

Now I'm going to hide my head in shame for several weeks.

ok...I have a simple question..is freespace 2 based on the descent 3 engine? Has a port been completed for freespace 2? I know that the code has gone open source and I actually have my freespace 2 cd's from my pc days (!) and I would love to play it on my powerbook!!

If it is available, where do we download it and how does one install it?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
