Hi All,

Just purchased a G4 Cube and Star Wars Racer! Have some questions, hope someone can help

Installed the game, no problem, ran it and well....... the screen is shifted to the left?? Anyway of centering the screen?

Also, I downloaded the update from lucasarts and un-stuffed it and it told me in the readme to copy over the files to where I installed the game and replace the original ones, I did this and everything seems the same, is there a way to verify that the update was installed?

Last but not least, the game does not install OpenGL, so I installed it after installing the actual game. How do I know if it is using OpenGL or not?

I used to own a Mac a long time ago (think iiC) since then I have used mostly PC's but couldn't pass up the deal on the Cube so here I am using Macs again. I'm a little confused with the games because most PC games will let you pick which driver you want to use ie. OpenGL or Direct X and you can't do this with Racer

Oh yes, the Cube has OS 9.2.2 on it, ATI Rage 128 and 704MB of RAM

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome back to Mac-land!

The screen shifting thing is probably only a monitor issue: try calibrating your monitor with the game loaded. Your monitor probably has buttons on it that center the image horizontally or vertically. Once you get the screen image in the right place, your monitor will remember those settings for that game.

Select the Racer icon and chose Get-Info (or Command-i) from the File menu to see what version it is.

As for OpenGL, I would make sure you have the latest version installed and -- assuming the game runs -- then forget about it. You can check what the latest version is at Apple or by doing a search at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com

I played Pod Racer for quite a while.... it's a gas. I always had the best experience using the keyboard controls rather than my gamepad. The gamepad worked, but I was able to control my pod more precisely with the keyboard. I got VERY good at it.... altho' it took a while to get used to things.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you!

Thanks for the info!

If I adjust the monitor though, will it change the desktop when I exit back out of the game? Will it affect any of my other PC's as I have the monitor on a KVM and share it across 4 computers

I'll check the site to see the latest version of OpenGL. I read somewhere though that to enable OpenGL you must turn off the ATI extensions? Is this true? doesn't make sense to me

The game is great, I have it for my PC, PSX, DC and now my MAC, and I like the game on all platforms!

Thanks again

You shouldn't have to disable any extensions. Yes, the MacOS has both ATI and Nvidia extensions, but depending on which card you have in that Cube, the MacOS will detect the card and use the proper extensions. The other extensions will just not be used.

By the way, both ATI and Nvidia cards support OpenGL acceleration.

No, it shouldn't affect the desktop.... these settings are kept separately. At worst, you might have to re-frame your desktop one time, but I doubt even that will be necessary.

Go ahead and align B&W for your monitor....

Any plans to use OS X? B&W runs natively there, and runs great!

Thanks for the info!

I adjusted my monitor in game and it is perfectly centered! Didn't touch the desktop, sweet!

I did the control I thing and it mentions its version 1.01 so the patch did work, the only thing I am confused about is the patch mentions it allows mouse access of menus but I still can't use the mouse, its all keyboard, oh well, no big thing.

Thanks for the help!
