I updated to 10.1.3 and I now get a blank screen when launching quakeIII, I can hear the menus making noises etc but can't see any thing. I think this may have something to do with the resolution I run it at (1600x1024xall set to max detail etc on a Geforce3).

How can I get quake visable again?

Are you trying to run it from OSX, Classic or OS9?

The OSX update for Quake III, AFAIK, is at beta stage, which means that it may or may not work on your config. The OSX 10.1.3 update may have changed something and therefore the beta may not work.

Mine( Most recent OS X version of Quake III) no longer works either after updating to 10.1.3. I don't get the blank screen, though. It just unexpectedly quits every time I try to launch it.

In that case I think it's safe to say that something between the 10.1.2 and 3 upgrades broke the Quake III beta... I guess the only thing that can be done is to wait for an updated beta or reboot into OS9...

Heh... Guess I should've thought of that one...

In OS9, that's usually the first thing I do when I encounter problems.

I am running QIII in OS 10.1.3. I seem to remember reading somewhere that running at high res on 10.1.3 causes problems. Can I edit the config file to change the res QIII runs at? How?

Works fine in 9

You could always open it up in a text editor and look through your settings, but if you want to keep it simple just delete the prefs file and the game should default to 640x480 next time you start it up.

I installed Q3 1.30 point release, and it would freeze after a while on OS X 10.1.3. I was able to remotely login and kill the runaway Q3 process, but it didn't dump back to the Finder, so I had to reboot it. I also tried different resolutions (800x600, 640x480) but it still froze.

I didn't have this problem when I switched to the Q3 1.31 beta.

Does anybody know if compiler optimizations were done for the 1.31 beta? So far, the OS X versions of both Q3 and Q2 feel slower than the original classic apps running under MacOS 9.
