Okay, so I'm going to a StarCraft party this evening and I'm going to be the only Macintosh there. Yes I plan to represent our community with strength and humilty, however I need anything and everything that can be recommended in terms of the networking my box to theirs.

I have no doubt that the Mac can do it, but I'm unsure about the PCs and Starcraft itself. I read that SC on OSX will NOT do IPX (which would be the connection method) So I think I'm going to be (ugh) in 9.. (I haven't booted into 9 for MONTHS)

So if anyone can make some quick recommendations for this evening, let me know..

(I don't know if we're doing DHCP or what not..)

Thanks!

I tried that once, a very long time ago...I just remember something about putting an IPX control panel in the System folder before it worked...

You might find yourself playing around with it to get it to work...but work it shall.

Note: the latest Windows patch accommodates UDP play. As long as they're running the latest version, you should be able to play with them just fine.

exactly, get them to update their versions, shouldn't be a problem unless they all pirated it (so this very likely will be a problem). All you will need it SC, ethernet cable, and your mac. And make them use UDP.

I was surprised that at the lan party I was at two weeks ago, the geek were ecstatic that they could use UDP (I dont' really know the diff, but they said UDP was newer thus better )

have fun

Yeah, if for some reason you can't do the UDP, you will need to make sure you have the IPX extension and control panels installed.

You probably will not be using DHCP. All the LAN parties I've been to always had static IPs. But some people do things different.

Give 'em hell!

Hmm... UDP. I wasn't paying attention in the last update. That's cool. I guess I don't need to go into 9 then

Okay, much happiness.

And yes, when I am successful, I will attribute it to the fact that I'm using a Mac, even though that will have no bearing on the actual game play.

Thanks guys!

Just so everyone knows, I'm at the party now and we just did a test. Everything is looking fine with UDP. Thanks for your help!

Being the only Mac at a party is always a badge of honor. Especially when yours is the only computer that experiences no trouble networking, and no crashes.

Rock on.

I was unaware that the latest version does UDP. Is that the .08 patch?
