A lot of gripers are running over the ambrosia web board right now with complaints about everything from story lines to bad foot odor. What do you all thing of the newest addition to the EV family?
Me? I think it rocks the party that rocks the party!

To me it seems better that EVO, which had story lines so convoluted that I gave up.
My only problem with EVN is that I sent in my registration five days ago, and still no code to unlock it. I also had some delay when I got the code for Pillars of Grenedell. Whoever contended that Ambrosia turns registrations around in 24 hours didn't ask me.

I have tried this out so far on a Beige Minitower G3 & an upgraded PM7500 using ATI Nexus 128 card (32mb on Beige) and Rage Orion (16mb on 7500) and both machines give me a problem as far as the displayed resolution is concerned! I have tried to let the game change the resolution by itself and have tried to manually change the resolution on each machine... but it always shows up with a screen that is larger than can be seen (i.e.- some of the controls screens in the game are off the edge of the display and cannot be accessed! grrrr!) Any suggestions???
Beige running 9.04 / or 9.2.2
7500 running 9.1
ATI software version = 2.7.0

Slow.
This game is unbearably slow on my iBook Dual USB. And it really shouldn't be. I can run 3d shooters faster than I can run this program.
Of course, it's still fun. I just have to keep caps lock on to make the animation even kinda realistic. And I'm gonna register and all, but still...very saddened by graphics performance.
And don't tell me it's cos I'm on an iBook. It should still run at the right speed.

I'm totally hooked. I'm not sure how long it'll last, but this game brings great new additions to the engine that we can hope plugin developers will keep expanding it for a long long time.
Timo: I got my registration last night. It was sent from Ambrosia very late one evening. They're truly working day and night on this.
BillyB: Talk to Ambrosia directly on their webboard.
unfaded: You're right, it shouldn't. I've got a slower machine than yours, and it's perfecty fine here. What OS do you use? Also, try setting the screen to thousands of colors manually, maybe the game fails to do that.

Why can't access AmbrosiaSW anymore? Is the Ambrosia server overloaded?

Escape Velocity Nova doesn't auto switch your resolution. All it will do is switch to thousands of colors if your desktop isn't already set for it. Try setting your desktop to thousands and starting up the game.
Oh, one thing I've always done with Escape Velocity games is play with the caps lock down (which someone mentioned already). Speeds up the game a bunch. If pirates come along, just turn off caps lock. The EV games always seemed a little to slow for my taste, so caps lock feels just right

The graphics look really nice, and the game is defiantly the easiest to get in to out of the three. EV was a lot of fun because there was nothing like it before. EVO's storylines were just weird, and not a lot of fun. Finally third time around, it's been well crafted....but just more of the same..nothing much new.
However I've just been playing it for a few days (and trying not to show much of the story line here...) and now I'm forced to do missions for "someone". Not allowed to buy any new ships, or do much of anything. So after many hours of play, now I'm forced to go to an alien homeworld whose race doesn't like me. I get shot down every time I try to land on the planet and I only have a measly shuttlecraft. All this time and waiting to just hit a brick wall? Not much fun. I don't feel like starting all over again, so that's about it for this game for me. Back to Black & White :-)

If you dock with that base, you'll get a (free) ship that is much more powerful than that puny shuttle you've got at the moment...and it'll be all worth it.

Yeah, it should... I'm running a 3 year old PB G3 300, and it runs perfect (although I've only tried in OS9 so far). No complaints.
What OS are you running it in? Maybe there's some setup problem involved... It should automatically revert to thousands of colours, so that shouldn't be an issue...

Hmm, there have been a number of complaints, but I think that is partly due to the fact that we've been waiting for it for a long time, and over time expectations kept on growing. I think EVN is great, and definitely worth the price. But some may have got their expectations so high that the game fell a bit flat when they finally tried.
The other major complaint is that Ambrosia's been a bit slow in the registration process. It's a bit bizarre considering they're a software company, but apparently they fill the data into databases by hand, which makes for a very slow process. I haven't got any complaints, though... I registered it on Monday straight after the download finished, and got it on Wednesday.

It's great, but it's a tad slow. Get a few big ships on the screen, and my framerate goes way down. Luckily, weapons fire doesn't do the same thing, otherwise there'd be a problem.
I love shooting asteroids!! It's one of those things that I've wanted to do for years now, but haven't had the chance since maelstrom.
I recently attacked Matt Burch. He's in a black Kestrel. He released like 15 ships which all attacked me, but Matt launched a giant missile which destroyed three of the little ships, as well as me!

Matt is invincible - he's got infinite shields. If you're really really good, you might get a kestrel of your own eventually.

From what I've seen, to win this game you must be totally selfish, and not care about anyone else, don't do favors for anyone, and if anything seems the least bit risky, don't do it.

This is the first one of the series I've played. I like it so far, tho' it is a bit repetetive. Runs fine on my 500Mhz iBook w/ 256MB RAM, even with iTunes or Excel running alongside it.

It seems as I play that Ambrosia sacrificed flexibility for plot on this one.
