I use earphones for audio. I had them plugged into the stereo mini-jack of my G4 minitower "Digital Audio" and all was well.

I just purchased a Plantronics DSP-500 digital headset to upgrade my earphones and get a noise-canceling mike as well. It plugs into the USB port, via a USB hub.

It's working fine, except that the audio cuts in and out occasionally while playing B&W (and nowhere else). It doesn't happen often and it's only for a moment or two.

Does anybody have any ideas why this would be happening? The only thing I can think of is that I may have had Speech Recognition turned on at the time, but if I did, the mike was turned off (physically, on the headset itself). Could this be related in some way?

Thanks!

Do you get the same problem when you're using the regular internal speaker/non-USB earphones? Or is it just when audio is going out through the USB headset?

I can't think of any reason why B&W would be affected by either mode - we use the regular Mac Sound Manager API for audio, and don't do anything device-specific in terms of setup (so we don't know or care where the SM sends the audio data).

If you want to send an ASP report in to bwsupport@zonic.co.uk, we'll log a bug on it in case anyone else reports a similar problem. Sorry I can't think of anything more useful...

No problems whatsoever when using the stereo mini-jack. Let's not report it yet.... I still want to experiment some more as I learn the ins and outs of the new headset.

As part of that experiment: does B&W have speech recognition capabilities? I ask because once when I loaded it, the speech FB window appeared, which it should only do when the app is speech ready....

Thanks for such a prompt response!

No, we don't support speech recognition - I'm not sure why that window was being triggered for you, but that might well be the culprit.

Imagine that - it would blow Molyneux's gestures out of the water.

<shouting to your mac> "Creature - I COMMAND you to eat that villager!"

That would make B&W even more of a God game
