Since i purchased it i have tried to report 2 diablo II bugs to blizzard. Both times i have gotten what appear to be canned responses. one was sugesting a game reisntall after a bug had been introduced in a game update, and the second more recent one.. blames a program crash on not being able to get on a server and that they are wroking on adding servers or something.

I find this lack of acknowledgement to be bordering on denial, and very disconcerting. I have to ask myself why should i bother even reporting problems.. (or buying blizzard products) if im asked to talk to the catch22 department?

Anyone else had the misfortune to talk to blizzard on a big?

Kinda hard for them to know everything that's going on with every user's computer at all times, ya think? They certainly don't have the time to respond personally to every email they get on a bug report. One known bug may generate 5000 reports. You want a personal reply?

I'm a big Blizzard fan, I have everything they ever put out for the Mac. It may not be perfect, but it's a lot better than most of what's out there.

Once I wrote them a very long and detailed email about a number of bugs they introduced in the 1.04 patch.

They actually did give me a somewhat more personal response...

The gist of it was "AOL is a crappy ISP. Get something better. It's because you are using AOL that you are experiencing all these problems."

IRONY:
AOL is not my ISP. I use an AT&T @Home cable modem as my connection, but still use AOL for email.
And besides, much of what I reported couldn't possibly have been caused by an ISP problem anyway.

So... yeah, I agree that Blizzard is the most unresponsive company this site of Jupiter for bug reports.

WEll ya know you say that they cant know whats going on withe veryone computer.. but when i tell then it drops into teh debugger and send them a debug log.. and how i reproduce it all i want is "ok this might be a bug we'll look into it" not "our servers are bury and we'll be adding more servers" The latter doenst address the bug at all, and it makes me feel like im getting blown off. I think i shall waylay the blizzard guy at macworkd (if they show).

i sent an email to blizzard recently regarding the problems with the US West realm (ie being kicked off all the time, and not being able to join or see the realm in the list).

They replied within a couple of days, with a mixed response, which I will include here.

I was pretty impressed - they must get heaps of emails and I was pleased to see the personalised response and the fact that the responded quickly.

They even asked me to keep them informed as to how things go - Us west is just too darned busy in reality. Apparently new realms are being released at the same time as the release of the expansion pack. Hopefully this makes a difference. I just wish they could introduce an Oceania realm for all us aussies, kiwis and english speaking se asians. Nothing worse than playing with people who dont speak or understand english - a whole element of the game is lost.

Thank you for informing us about this. Due to the large amount of people
that are trying to log on to Battle.net at the same time, many people are
having problems connecting to Battle.net. If you are getting connected to
another realm, getting "Player not found", "Your cd key is used by...",
"Server Down", "No realms available" error messages or any other similar
connection problems with Battle.net, please try logging on another time. I
am sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused you. This problem
should be a temporary problem with our Battle.net servers and should be
fixed as soon as possible. If this problem does not get fixed, please reply
back to me. You can also check our support site for the latest
troubleshooting tips at: http://www.blizzard.com/support/inde...&BugID=247

Occasionally servers will be taken down to update software or to make
changes or enhancements to the hardware. If we find any problems that could
contribute to server crashes or splits, we will be taking action in order to
prevent that. If we are forced to take down a realm server, we will get it
back up and running as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding
in this and we will be doing everything we can to ensure that your Diablo II
experience on Battle.net is enjoyable and fair.

We appreciate your patience if you run into any server related problems.
One of the highest priorities at Blizzard Entertainment is to constantly
improve and maintain the stability of Battle.net, thus ensuring its
integrity for all future games. We are constantly striving to achieve a
greater gameplay experience, and we dedicate ourselves to providing the best
value to our customers. We are adding more servers and increasing bandwidth
to accommodate the influx of players.

As improvements are made and as news on the Realms becomes available, we
will inform Diablo II players by making posts to the Battle.net Realm Status
forum: http://www.battle.net/forums/diablo2-realmstatus/. We urge players
interested in Battle.net news to periodically check this forum, as well as
the Battle.net home page: http://www.battle.net.

Mike N.

Subject: Cannot connect to US West realm with fast dsl connection - What
is going on?

BLizzard please help!

What the hell is wrong with us west realm at the moment?

I am trying to connect from Australia using an adsl connection. When I do
connect I tend to ping realms games consistently at around 200ms - ie I have
a fast connection despite the distance. Unlike most aussie users, who have
slower broadband or dial up and are lucky to ping below 600ms.

Now, The last two days only, Ive had enormous troubles connecting. It keeps
saying that no realms are available when I try to connect.

This morning I played for around 2 hrs trouble free, but I couldnt join at
all yesterday and cant again this afternoon.

I believe other players are having the same problem. I believe it is a non
specific issue related to the servers being too full and no open slots
avaiable.

Is this the reason why this is happening? Please rectify the problem. I am
empathetic that you have millions of people trying to join and that this can
affect speed and the occasional connection, but I cant connect at all.
Maybe user rotation is the key for you?

Please get back to me, Im very frustrated.

Jake

Chipmaster:
well i hate to burst your bubble (well not really) bur thats the same canned response i got sent when i sent a bug report on a type 2 crash when changing realms. While I can accept they are busy, they must not be too busy to send out unrelated responses instead of "ok thanks we'll look at it and get back to you if we need more info"

A pretense of intrest is all i want.
