Is there a way that I can network to Macs so that I can play Starcraft without paying for a hub?

How many Macs are we talking here? If it's only one then all you have to do is string a crossover cable between the two computers...but if it's more than that then you would have to buy a hub for local LAN games, as far as I know. If you want to play games against your friends without paying for the hub, then have you tried connecting to the internet and hosting a game for them on battle.net? That might be a possible answer...but I think it would probably be best to save up for a hub if you have lots of computers to network.

Yeah, there are two macs I want to connect. So all I have to do is buy a crossover cable? Is it easier to do an Appletalk or IPX connection in starcraft? Thanx.

Assuming that both Macs have Ethernet...yes, all you have to do is buy a crossover cable. As I recall, IPX is the way to go...I've tried multiplayering StarCraft once, and that was with a bunch of PCs, but it should still be relatively the same. Just drag and drop the IPX extensions into the System Folder, set up the StarCraft app to use IPX as its network option. Beyond that, I don't have StarCraft installed and it all happened quite a while ago, so I can't really come up with anything more specific off the top of my head. If you need any more help, please post back and someone else can probably take over.

Yeah, I can second blizzard there.
I didn't run StarCraft then, but back before I had a cable modem and thus needed a USB hub to allow both computers to access it, I had my then-two computers hooked up via a crossover cable. It worked for some other games (mainly Diablo 1) if I set them to use an IPX network, and yes, StarCraft should come with the necessary extensions (Diablo did, and they're both Blizzard, sooo... ).

So, yeah, simple. Don't ya love Macs?
Be happy.

Hope I'm not beating a dead horse here, but make darn sure it's a crossover cable. Otherwise it won't work.
