OK, i see that the Sims for mac requires 64MB RAM.. on my iBook, i have 32MB with Virtual Memory set at 64MB, so i "virtually" have 96MB RAM... will the Sims work under the aforementioned conditions? Also, if you've played the Sims on an iBook, are framerates, speed, etc. any good? Thanks for (possibly) saving me $40!

When you set virtual memory, it doesn't add that to your physical RAM, its included in the number - I have 128 RAM, with virtual RAM set at 129.
I don't have 257 megs to use though, I have 129 megs to use, as only 1 meg of virtual is being used, not 129. Get what I mean?
Go out and get another 64 physical RAM - you will not regret it. Your iBook will run remarkably faster and smoother.
32 megs with OS 9 is a bad idea...you are running OS 9 aren't you?

Go to the Aspyr support page and click on The Sims. The first thing listed in the FAQ addresses the minimum amount of RAM you'll need.

However, as far as performance on an iBook goes, I can't help much... it seems to run good on my G3/233 Desktop with 160M of RAM though.

I have The Sims installed on my iBook, and it runs fine (no problems with sound, framerate, etc.). Just a word of warning, the game by default wants 96 MB of memory (there was a thread explaining why somewhere... it has to do with the way memory is allocated on the PC), so if you're wanting to play the game my suggestion is to buy a bit more physical memory. I have 160 MB in mine and play the game w/o virtual memory. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

OK, thanks for the replies everyone! I know I need more RAM (for stuff more important than the Sims, too), but I was just hoping to sidestep it until I can really afford it... time to just play the waiting game now.. oh well, maybe I'll be able to hop aboard the Sims 2 bandwagon.. haha
