Do you have a microsloth intellimouse explorer? I do and the same thing happened to me in quakeIII. I eventually got it working with the drivers, but the wheel and ex.buttons would not work. I suggest you use USB Overdrive. It's a generic USB driver that can use almost everything (every USB input device i know of). I now can use the mouse in every game. in fact, the USB Overdrive programmer was hired to make the MS drivers (maybe he wasn't paid to do updates, or wasn't paid enough...)

If you do not have an intellimouse, check with the hockey puck that came with your computer. If it works, it is your mouse. Try updated drivers, or USB Overdrive.

If it still freezes when you are using the puck or the Pro Mouse, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Also, dumping some prefs never hurt anyone
Be happy.

Use USB Overdrive, but also, TURN IT OFF!

Your mouse driver is the prob.

In USB Overdrive, set up a profile so that when the game is launched, it disables itself
