Is anyone else here bothered by the fact that we aren't getting any of Atari's or Sega's classic games? I'm not what you'd call a "hardcore" gamer, but I rather enjoy these arcade style games, and it bothers me that we're being totally ignored by these people. I had a friend buy a bunch of great Atari games (a bundle, in a box) for about $10, but no Mac version in sight!
If there indeed is sufficient, we could make these companies aware that there is demand for thier products in the Macintosh community.

that's why there's emulation.
for the CVS (aka atari2600) there's Stella. it is great, plus atari roms are not too hard to find.
there's also plenty of emulation out there for all the sega consoles..(dunno about the sg1000 though)
just visit www.emulation.net. it's all pretty much there.

That's not my point. Emulation is great, and I often visit emulation.net (it's a great site). But, these are native games, requiring no emulator (which is more convinent, and it would be very nice to have a few more Carbon/Cocoa games) and as I understand it they have enhanced graphics- tell me if you know this is not so.
And some of the Sega games may not be emulatable for the time being, or not have even been released on a console system before.
My point is, I think there is a demand for these games on the Mac. And if there indeed is, we should make these companies aware of that. Why is it that we can almost never get good, inexpensive games??

hmm, you must be referring to those revised classic arcade games that were released a year ago or so. Atari had sold all its intellectual property and patents to Hasbro. So, hasbro did the logical thing and created revised games with a similar arcade feel only visually upgraded and changed gameplay. (centipede 3d??) So in essence they weren't really ports just new games with atari themed characters and titles. they probably sucked, i never played them.
...about the sega deal, i always thought they only released their games for consoles.

i agree that there is some demand for those games on the Mac platform, but unfortunately not enough in the eyes of most game publishers. and until this changes we're stuck with whatever limited options we have.
i for one am just glad blizzard has been treating us mac users with the same level of devotion that they treat their windows users..

Actually the Centipede version is out for the Mac, ported by Westlake. Macgamer has a very positive review at http://www.macgamer.com/reviews/cent...centipede.html . I picked it up yesterday for $20 and it's a lot of fun. The 3d mode works much better than I expected, and it's one of the few games to include a Mac OS X version.

hey that's cool. its nice that they opted to include the original centipede on there as well.
btw, where exactly was it that you picked it up for 20 bucks. sounds like a good deal to me.

Actually the "pure" classic game is the one thing I can't get working in OS X, although the original game with the 3d playfield works fine.

I've played some of the Sonic games by Sega on a PC and even under Virtual PC. I use Generator/Mac OS instead now for Sonic 3/Knuckles. Sega didn't do a good job on these emulators.

Well, it seems that things aren't as bad as I thought, as far as the Atari games go.- MacPlay just recently released Pong, and Centipede is also available, as "3.1416" pointed out.
Still- I wish we could get five games for $10, instead of one for $20. As usual, though, I will go out and support our platform's developers and probably buy both these games.
Thanks for your input. Oh, and erise, what did you mean by emulators? Aren't the Sega games made for PCs, and not emulated.
