OK i am not sure which forum to place this in, so I will try my best. The Max Payne website says that the game will utilise directx...What does that mean?? Will that work with my iMac dvse 400?? the graphics may suck, yes, but i cant get better card because i cant upgrade w/ the imac (or can i??). so will directx only work woth PCs? i hope they will work with my mac, cause this game is gonna be "bada$$."

you seem to be confused...I will try to help but this is not my area of expertese.

Directx is like openGL. It provides the system calls the the game needs to the os. so when games get ported over to the mac, they change this code for something else that our macs can understand. I'm tired so thats the best your gonna get...

(if this is false please correct me)

DirectX is Microsoft's game-centric API. It only works with machines that can run various flavors of Windows.

And the only two announced platforms for Max Payne are PC (Windows) and Playstation 2.

And, yes, it is going to be a fantastic game.

Generally, when a DirectX game is ported to the Mac, the porting house (Westlake etc) converts the DirectX function calls to OpenGL, which is what the Mac is now using as the standard. This isn't a process which the game does on-the-fly; all the calls are modified and then the game is recompiled. So, the end result is a program which renders its graphics using OpenGL instead of DirectX. You have nothing to worry about; the game will run just fine. All this nitty gritty stuff is taken care of by whoever is doing the port. It's what they're paid for, after all.

Chill!
