My friend (a designer, so he knows even less about computers than I do) has a G4/500/20GB/ 320MB. Last year he bought a cheap (4MB) PCI video card (which I installed) so he could run side-by-side monitors.

Recently I installed my old copy of UT on his machine (in the hopes of getting him hooked), but it barely ran. The game seems to have chosen the 4 MB PCI card because it defaulted to use software rendering.

My question is this: shouldn't the game detect the other monitor running his (stock) 16MB ATI card? Is there a way to tell UT which card to choose, or is this something that he (I) have to do in the Monitors CP? Can I just turn off one the weaker monitor before I launch UT?

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I am running UT on a dual monitor set up. Launch UT. Then select the options menu so you can adjust the video settings. Then click the "change" button on rendering engine or whatever. It should be the very first option in the video settings. You will then reboot UT and select a more appropriate API for your computer. In your case, select RAVE.

This should help you quite a bit. If it doesn't., I'm still willing to help.
