Check the usual suspects, like VersionTracker.

I have 2 video cards..both ATI Rage128pro's and they work fine on OS9.1 with Quake and OSX has no problems with them....

dang..had to create a new name cause this wouldn't remember my password..oh well..

Yeah, from what I've heard, no one has been able to get it to work with two video cards.

I am downloading it from file planet and I am 75th in line to down load it so it will be a while I can't wait has anyone seen an improvement in speed with dual 500s? I hope there won't be any problems, I only use OS 9 for quake 3 so Now I won't have to boot it up.

Well.... mixed feelings.

A. In High Quality at 1024x768 on my Dual 533 Geforce3 it pushes over 90fps hitting over 100fps in bits. This is better than OS 9 for sure

B. Unfortunately it freezes when you try to go to "Player" or "Controls" at the setup menu.

If they fix that I'll be a happy bunny.

Every time I try to launch the new OSX 1.29 beta I get an error message that says "The application Quake 3 has unexpectedly quit."

Any ideas on why this is happening

Possibly a bad installation? It's not like the old Mac OS X version by Omni Group. You can't install the app anywhere you like. I installed it like I would with any Mac OS 9 version. I install the Quake3 app in my 'classic' Quake3 folder and the new pak6.pak file in my 'classic' baseq3 folder.

The cd key and .cfg files are stored in

G4/450 w/512MB RAM here.

Very choppy and slow @ 800x600.
OS 9 runs the same settings perfect.

Given X's past record w/games i wasn't getting my hopes up anyway.

Speedracer, try deleting all your .cfg files and then restarting the game and fiddling around with some settings - just throwing a few things around, I was able to go from very poor performance to decent performance. I don't think it's as fast as OS 9, but it's quite playable - only a deficit of a few FPS over comparable setting in OS 9.

Put another way, I went from 13 fps to 31 fps at exactly the same level of detail and resolution. Not quite sure what's up, but I'll take it for now.

Now, I wonder when/if this update will be released for OS 9.

Well, that's just stupid. FAKK2 doesn't work with 2 monitors either, I think. I wonder if it has something to do with the Q3 engine or X. Either way, I don't like it.

OS X apparently doesn't handle dual monitors well at all; one of my friends is having the same problems, in that hers don't work when she is in X. Hopefully this will be addressed soon.

1.29f is a beta release and it is likely only part of the development process for the OS X version of the game. If it adds functionality or enhances gameplay, the developer almost certainly will at least visit the prospect of releasing a similar version for OS 9.

WTF has hapened to the mouse!!!
In OS9 it works normaly & I am able to play it.
In the new OSX version it's really weard, I can't hit anything.
I have tried messing round with the mouse sensativity in Quake, (which changes the setting in the finder and I have to go and change it back after :mad and there is no way I can get the same 'feal' to it as the OS9 version. It's Like the Mouse on a PC.

The classic version is said to be just a bit behind in development cycle. I think they're hoping to release non-beta version for both OS's in a couple of weeks ('though given the wait we've had for the G4 code...).

Now what I'd really like to know is if Westlake is serious about UT on X (perhaps with improved OGL support )
The antipathy we feel towards Windows is roughly commensurate with how the rest of the planet views America.
