i just bought that old game, and it runs slower than q3! if i move or a vidoe sequenz is played, i can see almost every frame!
i have an imac with os 9.1 and the newest quicktime. it's that too much for such an old game? increasing the ram didn't help.
any ideas?

I never played that game but I just read the review over at MacGamer and here is some relative info:

"Transitions and animations on the iMac (which contains a 233 MHz G3) were just a tad sluggish at times, but nothing serious. Next, give the game more than the minimum amount of RAM it requires (16 MB). The suggested size of Starship Titanic's RAM allocation is 32 MB. Make sure you can give the game that much (no virtual memory or RAM Doubler). I gave the game 36 MB, and it seemed to run with more stability. Make sure that you do not have File Sharing on or any other processor-intensive application or extension running.... [also] If you have the space, you will likely enjoy smoother game play with the 1.3 GB install option, although it will take a while to install."

Try the first few tips above if you haven't already. And as far as the later, yea full intsalls are nice, but few of us have the HD space for it

No patches or updates are listed at the game file sites.

Hope that helps.

half an hour installation and hundert mb ram didn't make it any better.
i guess it's because of the new quicktime, but i can't install 3 if i have 5 already installed?
what now? reinstall os 8?

Darn, that sux.
Yea, the same thing happened to me with the XFiles game, When I try to play it now the video does not play and I think it's because I have QT4 and it uses QT3. I asked myself the same question, can I put QT3 on my comp and also have QT4? I don't think I can and I don't want to run with QT 3 because then I won't be able to watch movie trailers. It sux because the games are old and I don' t think they will ever offer a fix. Possibly the only solution would be a partition with an older OS and/or older QT. Not sure.

Sorry couldn't be more help. If I learn of anything I'll post it.

and it runs perfectly!
so i've reinstalled the system on my imac, and it still doesn't work!
i don't know what to do anymore. perhaps it's just because of the ati?

Hey TomG3AKAMacguyver:

I saw your post regarding the X-Files game. I had the same problem and found a workaround so that it works fine under OS 9.1:

1. The problem is not with Quicktime, but the DrawSprocket Library extension that is installed with newer versions of the OS.

2. Copy the DrawSprocket Library extension (version 1.1.2) contained on the X-Files CD to your system folder (disabled extensions folder)

3. Go to your extensions manager and create a new extensions set called "X-Files" or something similar.

4. In extensions manager, disable DrawSprocketLib version 1.7.5 and enable version 1.1.2

5. Restart your Mac and you should be able to play the X-Files. When you want to do other things that may require the newer DrawSprocket Lib, you will have to boot back into your previous extensions set.

I hope this works out for you. If you have any problems, send me an email and I'll try to help.
