I am currently experiencing a rather frustrating problem in which Q3A for OSX freezes my entire system whenever I click on either Player or Controls setup in the Setup menu. As soon as I click on either menu choice, the game emits the Q3A “menu confirmation tone” but completely locks up before changing screens. I am pretty sure that the OS kernel is still running, but I am unable to force-quit Q3A because I have no way of seeing the force-quit dialog box and selecting Q3A from the list.
I installed Q3A for OSX by downloading the update, mounting it as a disk image, creating a new folder, copying the contents of the disk image to the new folder, and then copying the pak0.pk3 file from the Q3A for Classic folder. The game launches and plays just fine, except for the fact that I can’t change my keyboard layout, mouse buttons, character, or player name. Note that I can go into the System Setup menu and change the display resolution, graphics options and sound quality just fine.
I also tried copying my q3config.cfg and q3key files from my Q3A for Classic baseq3 folder into the Q3A OSX baseq3 folder, but it still fails to recognize my custom keyboard & mouse button layout or character/name settings. I experienced this problem with Beta 1 and Beta 2 of v1.29f as well as OSX 10.0.3 and 10.0.4.
I haven’t seen this problem posted by anyone else as of yet. If anyone has a similar problem or knows of a solution, please reply to this post or email me at perfectexit@hotmail.com.
