From what i heard they are going to start doing what all the manufacturers do.

Release mac games 6 months after the PC version has come out.

PC is obviously the better platform

I wouldn't complain if Ambrosia started making EV a windoze-only game. They can have it!!

Yes, it's annoying that Ambrosia is going to the dark side. But I say it's worth it if it ensures their company's continued existence

I know I'm new here but I'd like to put in my two cents. Ambrosia does not NEED to make a PC version to stay in business. However, why turn down the opportunity to make oodles of dough? Principal alone? Bringing in money by the truckload only means that they will be able to develop better games. Since they have been a mac-based company from the beginning, I'm willing to bet that they will still 'swim against the tide' and release the mac version first (or at least at hte same time)

Aha. Your PPC must have been a 50 MHz 601 then.

Do you know what's annoying? Mac zealots who are blinded by thier ignorant loyalty. I love macs, I've had macs my whole life. But Ambrosia going over to the dark side??? Hahaha. Could people be any more dramatic? Give me a break.

Oh, and another thing. Ambrosia is NOT making the Nova port to Windows. Contraband Entertainment is, NOT Ambrosia. ATMOS Software made Nova specifically for mac, and Ambrosia distributed it. Now, months after the mac release, Nova for Windows is coming out.

Why is this bad? You think it will make Windows users more cocky or something? Yeah right. If anything, we can brag to them about how Windows users desperately wanted Nova, a mac only game, so much that they had to spend all that effort porting it.

You act like this is something new. Um, Ambrosia has made Windows products before. See Pillars of Garendal. I didn't hear any of you complaining when that came out last year.

Hey, welcome to the real world. Andrew Welch (moki) runs a business. He can make more money selling the license for Nova to another company and let them do all the work porting it. Why on Earth wouldn't he do it? 'Oh no, I can never make a Windows product, because everyone and everything that has ever had anything to do with Windows is EVIL EVIL EVIL!!!!'

It seems the only problem here is little whiny kids like you knee-jerking about how the world is ending when Ambrosia makes a product for Windows. Do the world a favor.

Shut up.

AFAIK ASW did not sell any license. They gave the EV Nova 1.0.1 code to Contraband, they will port and ASW will publish it then.

I knew I got this forum account for a reason.

Actually Pike, I think that the reactions from the people hereat MacNN are pretty mild compared to the reactions of some of the people over at ASW. No one here is bitching too badly.

Your still in 'fend off rabid newbie' mode.

Why do I classify it as a "major Mac advantage"? Because I know people who have switched to Mac just to play this game. I'd consider any such program to be a major asset to the platform; Final Cut Pro is similar. And now, that facet of it is lost.

quote:
You act like this is something new. Beenox did, and Ambrosia handled distribution.

Or, if Ambrosia did make PoG itself, then once again, they weren't the ones who ported it to Windows. That wsas just a preexisting facet of the engine.

However, it's interesting to note that Beenox won't be making any more shareware, except to maintain the Coldstone engine...

Ambrosia has already said that there will be no new features added to the EV engine. Nova is the end of the line as far as that's concerned, though the engine itself has plenty of features which Nova did not use, so some innovation is still possible.

However, do you think Contraband will be content to never improve the engine? Not likely. Unlike Ambrosia, they [em]will[/em] start making improvements and adding features. I guarantee it, unless there's a really wierd licensing agreement between Ambrosia and Contraband that I'm not aware of. And we'll be reduced to second-class citizens in the Nova community, just as we've been with very nearly every software program and hardware peripheral that ever came out for multiple platforms, even when we originally weren't that way. Unless Ambrosia has pulled off some rather strange (and -to be frank- rather dirty) tricks, this will happen. Just you watch.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

Heh, this is moki we're talking about here. I would be very disappointed if he didn't pull some very dirty tricks to keep the playing field even. After all, he came into the porting nogotiations with the definative advantage: Nova and the decision whether or not to allow it to come out for PC at all. Do you think he didn't use this leverage to his advantage? moki is quite a smart feller. I wouldn't be worried just yet.

Let me see. Let's start with some of the topics you post here. They would be locked within seconds on Ambrosia, because they are stupid. See the Lounge for a perfect example. I don't apologize for pointing out the truth. I don't want you posting crap like that on Ambrosia, especially on my board. So I'm letting you know in advance. You make a comment about me, I respond. I say what I mean. If you think what I mean is mean, that's a shame isn't it? It's also the truth. I don't insult people without having a reason to do so.

grr! grr!

But as for PC Nova...

1) If the engine is maintained, the plug-ins means that we should hopefully get a range of things like Medal of Honour, based on the original engine, but, like, in space. Especially if the planets are expandable into mini-games in the future. Hopefully! With the large number of PC users, we might get a lot more Pales, although the number of crappy ones will be just as big. Hmm. ASW does do a rating thing for plugs, I guess.

2) (in joke) But, painless, will actually *play* the damn thing! w00t

Heh. Pointless ASW flame war. What fun.
If you leave this question to us for three years, we will settle it tomorrow morning.

I have only posted THREE topics in the lounge.

Firstly, why don't you read through the klondike topic? You are appearantly the only person who has a problem withit. In fact, a couple moderators posted in that topic seriously.

Secondly, what's wrong with the occasional post count celebration. Don't talk to me about bragging seeing as you posted in there saying that you had several thousand at ambrosia and this was nothing, not knowing who I was.

Thirdly, the one other topic about the moon being blown up was a political commentary I found funny and transcribed from a magazine. Nothing wrong with that.
