Remember, VPC cannot access your video card and runs an emulated Pentium MMX at around 1/2 - 2/3 your main proc's clock speed. If you have a Ti 500, that means that you'd be playing Half life as if it were using software rendering on a Pentium 250-335 MHz. Not pretty. But perhaps if you ran in 384x512 low low low...

Don't know how Red Alert 2 would be. Is it polygon or bitmap based?
Be happy.

Red Alert 2 is a 2D, bitmap-based game. I was able to play Red Alert 1 on my G3/266 a couple of years ago, so your TiBook should be able to at least play the game.

Don't get your hopes up concerning the HL mod, though. That would be pushing it.

greetings
i've played ra2 on a g4/450, at first with vpc3.0,... all i can say is slow, slow, slow... after i've upgraded to version 4.0, it was much better, but still quite slow... there were still problems with the video sequences.. but you get used to it..

cheers

HL can be played with VPC 4.0. I was bored one day and I wanted to see if HL could be played on my ibook (dual usb) and if you set the resolution to 300x200 you can get 15-25 fps. So if you have HL laying around you might want to see if you can play it, but I would not recommend buying it. Why doesn't VPC have the ablity to use the 3d card?

It did for a while (versions 2 and 3, I believe), but I guess Connectix found that too many people thought that that would make it a good gaming platform for their Macs, and became disappointed by the fact that it was still slow. So they removed the option in VPC 4, and will not put it back in. Oh well.

If you want to find an older version and use it with an old Voodoo2 or 1 (you can only use Glide cards with VPC, BTW) you should be able to play HL. But it still won't be pretty or fast.
