Rev A, Voodoo 2, 196 MB ram, OS 9.0.4....1.17 ran great, but the screen flashes a bit, and then it goes back to the finder.
ANyone?

Try increasing the memory on the MacQuake3 app a bit. id Software's Graeme Devine noted that this may be required.

Yeah, 1.27 totally f***ed my compter over. I had 180 megs allocated (I have 256 total) and at first it said it couldn't allocate it. So I reduced it to 160 and used Game Launcher and then it booted up, but then after the ID logo, it went back to the desktop and gave me a bomb error with a restart as my only option! Now I have tried to unintstall the components of 1.27 but there is no uninstaller or installer log to even see what it put in. Arrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!! This is the worst public beta ever!

I do not know any Mac users that have had ANY success with 1,27.
I was able to launch Q3 with the de bugger but I had to turn everything all the way down to run at all and when it did run, there were only 1/2 the textures loaded and skins did not load at all. I was fighting snowmen. I gave the engine 250 megs of ram (with plenty to spare) it made no difference.
as per usual IS software do not care about the Mac user!

well, bulb.......I think you are spewing **** .
id (YES.....id!!!!!) are one of the few gaming companies that seem to actually care about the Mac and about getting multi-platform versions of their games out on time.
They're probably (no dammit, they ARE) the biggest example of simultaneous PC/Mac development for other gaming compaies. They've already said that the Mac only sells about 5 per cent of the PC market (and Linux versions a fraction of that), but at least they are consistently getting out their latest games for us, and have people who are interested in and work with Macs.
Thank before you speak. I think a little gratitude is in order here, no matter what problems you may have with the latest release..........

Maybe a dumb comment, but...
You're updating the retail version, right? I updated without reading and f-ed my demo up. Just a stab in the dark.

Yes, it is the retail version. I agree that id is a good company when it comes to Mac support, but they really dropped the ball on this one. It did a real doozy to my system.

Version 1.2.7 works fine.
The problem you're having with missing textures, as well as with launch failures, is documented in the Q3 FAQ. Remove all non-ID pak/mod files. Then add them one by one to see which ones are not written properly and cause a problem.
The only issue is playing some of the demos. Not only the UI doesn't work in Q3 (though it does work in Q3TA), but the demos won't run at all in Q3 (the Q3TA specific demos run in Q3TA though).
However, that's a very minor issue.

Thank you. I did not think I had any mods, but will try looking and see if I find anything. Does that include custom models (like grinch etc.)?

Again with the "my own stupid mistakes" Dept.
I had trouble updating 1.11 from the Quake CD.
Update to 1.17 (d/l) before updating to 1.25. No problems now, but going from 1.11 - 1.25 f'ed everything up.
Noticing performance has dropped ~ 10%, but available servers has increased tremendously.

If your 1.27 beta isn't working, try this:
1. Install a fresh copy of Q3 from your disc
2. Make sure the new install is updated to 1.1.7
3. Then update it to 1.27

The install of 1.27 went without a hitch on a fairly new G4 running MacOS 9.0.4. Here's what I did:
1) Ran the installer to create a new "quake3" folder.
2) From the old install of Quake, copied from "baseq3" to the new install's "baseq3" folder the following files:
pak0.pk3
q3config.cfg
q3key
3) Bumped the memory on "MacQuake3Debug" to 200 meg
I don't get the ID logo movie anymore, but I always clicked through that anyway
Not seeing any of the reported performance hits. Occasional "stuck loop" death sounds on your own death (same thing would happen in the early Demo Test days too) but otherwise, all is well (and my old install of Quake 3 is still available if need be, untouched).

I haven't had any problems! I have B&W G3 400 with 256 Mb RAM nad after allocating 180 Mb RAM (same as before) to the debug app it worked right away and nothing bad has happened since. Although for some reason "Apple Audio Extension" started crashing my computer and I can't use the older version of Virex... maybe unrelated issues but minor issues.

I know this isn't a Q3F Win32 forum, but bear with me.
I play Quake III Arena on my 450MHz Pentium II with my Voodoo3 3500 card. Point Release 1.17 works perfectly.
When I upgraded to 1.27, It just throws me back into Windows.
It does a few resolution changes (normal), but right as it's about to load the id splash, it quits, switches back to my normal resolution, and that's it.
I bought Quake III: Team Arena, which comes packaged with 1.27. When I installed this, I thought it was the game's fault. But the same problem is happening with the downloaded version of 1.27.
Remember, this is Windows. But still, it refuses to work.
Might it have something to do with the Q3Fortress mod I have installed?

The id logo was removed at the last minute from the Mac build of Q3 1.27 because it was causing problems and there was already a large demand from users for it to be released.

Just a note-
I'm running Quake 3: Team Arena on the 1.27 beta with no problems (aside from the mentioned id logo issue).
