I'm not sure there's anything else Apple can do, unless the documentation isn't up to scratch... It does seem that developers are slow to support HID.

MacMAME has HID support, and it works fine with my iShock, but nobody else seems to be doing it.

They could still wrap it into an 'Input Sprockets' type library, to make it easier to program for. (Some shareware developer has made something like that, can't remember the name.)

USB Overdrive X doesn't support game controllers yet.
