I just bought a Game Wizard Voodoo II graphics card for my rev. A iMac the other day. I was wondering if anyone has the lastest drivers from MicroConversions (before they shut down). I know that I can use 3Dfx's Voodoo drivers but I want the Game Wizard drivers too. Thanks.

You can't use the regular 3dfx drivers. Sorry. YOU CAN use their libraries, but not the driver extensions; it won't find the card, as it isn't in a real PCI slot

The best set of extensions for the Game Wizard are as follows:

3dfx GlideLib3.x
3dfx OpenGL Renderer 1.0b11
Game Wizard MacGlide 2.53r7

Don't forget to turn off the OpenGL RendererATI extension for the 3dfx OpenGL Renderer to work.

I have them, and I'll email you them when I get home from work. Follow The Dude's instructions as to which extensions to use. Otherwise if you use the GameWizard extensions you'll need Mesa to run OpenGL.

Disabling the ATI OpenGL renderer prevents OpenGL from initializing on Q3A. "Quake 3 Error: Could not initialize OpenGL."

Running Q3A WITH ATI renderer runs game, but when Voodoo is selected as the video driver and video restarts, the menu still states it is using the "default" configuration - no mention of V2/Gamewizard until reselected.

PS: Looking at the .cfg file it looks as if GW *is* already selected by Q3A Does:

"seta r_glDriver "3dfxvgl" = GameWizard?

I've never had that problem with Q3. All the games I've installed except PodRacer and Q2, set up for the Game Wizard automatically.

I still can't run with the ATI renderer extension disabled, but at least it *looks* as if Q3A is using the GW even though Voodoo is not the currently active driver in the "System" setup.

Now call me off-topic and overly-picky, but compared to UT on the same machine Q3A looks like garbage, the fps is pathetic (even at 640x480, medium details), the maps are tiny, and the bot AI (for a game of this supposed calibre) inexusable. WTF?

The only things i can see Q3A has going for it is a faster launch time, longer "legacy," and somewhat more realistic sound.

So why would anyone want to play Q3A over UT - especially when Q3A is selling for 2x the $$$?
