I just finished ready the article "The New Face Of Gaming" and I just thought I'd drop my two cents :^)

I thing that some kind of blood feedback would have been a good thing. Don't think Quake III, think more Deus Ex.

There IS blood in Deus Ex, but barly any. Just enough to tell you you've hit them. It also serves another purpose, is Deus Ex, when you hit someone, if they run, they leave a (faint) trail of blood. Making it easy to follow them, or to help tell you NOT to go (they usually run to a friend.)

Quite short, and lots of refrences to Deus Ex.. not quite what I wanted in the beginging, but, I think it works... :o)

I don't know. This is kinda of a new idea to me. I guess I pretty much took the violence in games in stride. I bought FAKK2 and there were several death sequences of enemies that, frankly, startled me. I wasn't expecting the extreme gore of the game. However, after the initial shock, I didn't mind it so much because, after all, I was slicing up monsters, not humans. BTW, FAKK2 rocks, but is too short.

Anyway, for games like UT and Q3, there had better be some gore! I seriously don't think that games like those would be nearly as good if all we saw were flashes and stunning (a la Oni). Hey, I'll admit, I get the heartiest laughs sometimes when I see an opponent suddely turn into blood and guts and fly all over the arena. UT players know how funny it is to watch some poor fool fall from the top of Face and then "make a small crater" while his guts go splashing around.

I think there are two good ideas that should be the norm in controlling video game violence in all formats (console, computer, arcade). First, parental responsibility. If a parent is at all responsible, then they should be able to control what their kid plays and sees. Don't let everybody be punished just because too many parents are too frickin' lazy to take care of their little Johnny. Second, parental controls within the games. Granted, there are many games out there that are great and would be fine for a little kid if it lacked the gore. So, give us parental options and let US make the decisions whether there is gore or not!

However, I would like to say real quick that I think there is a limit to what violence is good. I think that if the violence becomes extremely gorey and realisitic, it has gone too far. Personally, I would never buy a game who's main selling point is the gore. Also, I don't mind gore so much if it isn't directed at humans. I have no problem at all messily dispatching a horde of Phor or blowing Lord Tyler to kingdom come. UT and Q3 don't bother me because, hey, everybody comes back to life anyway! Ha ha!

Anyway, sorry this was so long, but that's my 2 cents.

The whole video game violence issue is bullsh!t.
Its just something else 'they' thought of to argue about and ruin for everyone else.
I mean, whats the problem with having maximum gore?
Nothing.
Its up to the person playing.
So have in game controls.
I mean when people say it influences people... well thats a load of crap.
I play Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, UT, Q3 and other violent games, and do I run around killing people?
No.
If you are weak minded enough to be influenced by a video game then there is something wrong with you anyway
Let the blood rain down!

An insulting and moronic post, Cipher. The usual for you.......

Anyway, those of you who've played Oni....the "flashes" are feedback. They tell you how hurt the opponent is and when they die. It's cool. A much better solution than just plain blood, I think.....
