So I want an internal soundcard and am seriously considering the Audiophile 2496. OSX is really my only operating system and I wanted your opinions.

Anyone heard it? What kind of speakers should I get? Any other advice?

Thanks in advance.

Good Times.

What do you want to use it for? If you want to use it for recording and playback of audio it sounds great but the soundblaster has things like echo and surround for games. I am not sure this is the game for you if you want game stuff but if you want movie/sound audio then this would be a great card for you.

I forgot this was in the game forum so you probably want surround in games.

actually I am mostly interested in movies.. but more importantly just clean 5.1 sound in OSX. No fancy effects or distortion.

Does it work? How does it sound?

What speakers do i buy?

How much are you looking to spend on speakers?

Creative Inspire speakers are great for around $99. Logitech's your next best bet at $199. If you really want to go overboard, pick up a Klipsch ProMedia system. They're the ultimate in PC audio, but that comes at a hefty price.

do the klipch promedia 5.1 work with this card?

I assume this card works fine w. osx?

how is setup and can you modify the levels of each channel individually?

This is the card I was going to get, along with Altec Lansings highest end 4.1 computer speakers.

But I got a big fast 120 gig drive instead.

After looking around a lot this was the only card that I was able to find that I would have actually bought.

Another option is that thing made by Yameha... it is a USB sound device. Gives you 5.1...

They reviewed it at <a href="http://www.insidemacgames.com/reviews/view.php?ID=219" target="_blank">Inside Mac Games</a>.

edit: also check out on Inside Mac Games their audio hardware reviews
