The US Army will be releasing America's Army: Operations 'Recon' version in about 7 Hrs and there's a lot of positive buzz about it on the net (220MB download I hear). It's based on the Unreal Warfare engine and it's supposed to be hyper realistic.
Is anyone else ****ed that they didn't develop a Mac version as well? I mean if the government is going to spend millions of our tax dollars on a video game they really should take the time to do it right .
Besides, since the game is partly a promotional/recruitment vehicle you'd imagine they'd want to support all major platforms so as not alienate thousands of potential recruits .

I think it's amusing that a government project could release a product using Unreal warfare quicker than the company that developed it is. That said I'm anxious to see how well their implementation of it performs and if they have the cool stuff we've seen in the unreal demos. I don't think the engine has been ported to mac yet, so that's not the army's fault. Even so, they have to pick and choose where they spend their resources like every other company.

It's a prelease version. I am going to try it out at my friend house. The graphics are awesome. How could this be developed for Mac OS if Unreal 2 hasnt even been started? I really hope unreal2/UT2003 gets ported to Mac soon .

The mere idea of an fps from the Army annoys the hell out of me, so I think it's just as well that there is no Mac version. I'm not intersted in playing propaganda, and I'm even less interested in my taxes paying for it's development.
That said, it does have good graphics, and I've heard the gameplay is pretty slick. I think that's what bothers me the most.

seriously, its friggin pathetic. How ****ed off would you be if the government started to make movies and enticed you to watch them for free. People would be going bananas, furious over the obvious use of such blatant propaganda tools, soiling an essential art form. Granted, the government already does this with movies by withholding military support (i.e. every jerry bruckheimer movie is essentially a recruitment flick) but at least they dont have the nerve to go right out and openly attack an art form and change it into a form of persuasion. If people ever want video games to achieve the next level of artistic importance, and for it to be seen as an art form rather than pure entertainment, movements like this recruitment game must be squashed. The people should refuse to play this raping of a new form of art.
